“The Banks of the Lethe” is episode eight of season one of Andromeda.
The Andromeda Ascendant has returned, with a collection of scientists, to study the black hole from “Under the Night” that she was trapped in. Three hundred years in the past, Dylan’s fiancée, Sara (played by Kevin Sorbo‘s real-life wife, Sam Sorbo), is trying to rescue him from the black hole’s grasp, a year after his ship became stuck there. Through a quirk of time, they end up able to communicate over the 300 years separating them. Harper, and the scientists, have been experimenting with teleportation, something that, coincidentally, would be similar to the communication they are doing, only with people.
In “Angel Dark, Demon Bright” it was mentioned that the Commonwealth date was past 10,000 and I assumed that meant that it was set over 10,000 years in the future. There is mention that the alien race in this episode sponsored Earth’s joining the Systems Commonwealth, so it looks like it pre-dates humanity’s entrance, possibly by some time. Even if it did seem very human-heavy.
The second time travel episode already. Rather unusual in a show that isn’t actually about time travel. At least they did mention a couple of possible effects of time travel that were skipped over in “Angel Dark, Demon Bright” related to the creation of alternate futures.
