“For the Team” is episode seven of season two of Warehouse 13.
This episode opens at Leena’s. Dr. Kelly Hernandez is visiting, checking up on the ferret that Myka acquired in “Pilot – Part 1”. Kelly and Pete seem to clash (but does she actually think of him differently to how she’s letting on? When she saw the Marines in “Beyond Our Control”, it looked like she was eyeing Pete up). Artie and Claudia arrive after she leaves; they have a ping. Pete is not going on it, as in the previous episode, “Around the Bend”, he went a little crazy after playing with what turned out to be an artefact. Arties says they need to wait and see if there are any residual effects. Myka is going to see a wrestling team at a north California university who lost every match for the previous seven years and now are unstoppable. Pete wrestled at college, but he is still grounded. One of the team members is dead; he died alone in a fire whilst camping. With Pete grounded, Claudia is accompanying Myka as backup, her first official assignment. As an apprentice. Artie suggest that, whilst visiting the university, she enrols and gets a degree.
Claudia, who gets a little uncomfortable at being in the team’s changing room after the match, goes out at Myka’s suggestion. She sees the wrestler who just won, only his muscles are behaving oddly, bulging and popping. He says they are hurting bad, then bursts into really, really intense flames, leaving only a vaguely man-shaped piece of ash in less than a second. Which is definitely not normal. The other fire started inside the sleeping bag of the person who died. Spontaneous human combustion definitely suggests an artefact.
Myka speaks to the coach, who has the entire team touching a gold medal, which she suspects is an artefact (too obvious?). He is less than cooperative. Claudia is assigned to speak to the team members. She doesn’t do very well at it. The next thing Claudia and Myka stumble across is a person – H. ‘Helena’ G. Wells (who apprenticed at Warehouse 12), who hasn’t been seen since “Time Will Tell”. Myka reacts quite violently and starts throttling her. She defends her killing of MacPherson, saying that he would have killed all of them, and says she is looking for the artefact as well. Which isn’t the gold medal. Claudia is trying to copy how Myka behaves, which Myka says is dumb, and she should be herself. Especially as the wrestlers are her age (this works better). They think the coach is dirty in some way. And why is Wells looking for the artefact? She was conscious the entire time she was bronzed (so her being sane is a surprise) but it apparently gave her a lot of time to think and plan. He knows something, but when someone drives a car into him, it’s pretty clear he’s not the one responsible, or at least not the only one.
At the Warehouse Pete is bored with desk duty. And is playing with another artefact. Then Artie gets pains. His appendix is apparently growing back. Something it does every year (a side effect of the Warehouse supposedly). So the doctor comes out and suggests that they remove his appendix. Again. Just in case. Pete decides that Artie likes the, female, doctor, and uses it to poke fun at him. Artie may be regretting grounding Pete. Especially when Pete discovers that Artie’s appendix growing back is not a side effect, and that it’s simply a ploy to get the doctor to come back to the Warehouse. So Pete suggests they go on a date. Artie is also just a little shy. There is an unfortunate side effect of his infatuation and reluctance to actively do anything about it.
