“Founder’s Mutation” is episode two of season ten of The X-Files.
In the previous episode, “My Struggle”, AD Skinner re-opened the X-Files and both Mulder and Scully are back at the FBI.
This episode starts with a scientist at a genetics facility, who seems to be in bad shape – his eyes are bloodshot, suggesting broken vessels in them – and who is hearing a painful sound that no-one else can hear. He locks himself in a very secure room, then kills himself by stabbing a sharp implement through his ear.
Mulder and Scully arrive on the scene, but they aren’t allowed access to all the evidence, because the lab is associated with the Department of Defence. The man in charge of the lab is supposedly working on cures to genetic diseases.
There are various flashbacks and mentions of Mulder and Scully’s child, who would have been born around the time the last season ended. Possibly this will be an ongoing plot; some of the stuff seems possibly contradictory.
