“The Alamo” is episode thirteen of season one of The Time Tunnel.
At the end of the previous episode, “The Death Trap”, Doug and Tony had arrived outside a fort that was being attacked by soldiers. Tony and Doug got into a fight with the attackers and the defenders gestured them to come in. Doug got knocked down but the soldier attacking him got shot by a defender. Tony returned for Doug and got him inside before more soldiers, cavalry, arrived. Doug has a headache from hitting his head on a rock. Tony is sure the attackers are Mexican and the cavalry is driven off.
At Tik-Toc, Anne thinks the attackers are Mexican and General Kirk agrees. Ray says the year is 1836 but he doesn’t know the month or day yet. Kirk wants to know every military action the Mexican army was involved in that year.
Doug and Tony are approached by a Captain Reynerson, whose wife was checking on the wounded. He tells them that Crockett was killed yesterday and his wife had never seen a wounded man before she came to the fort. He wants to know if they are couriers. They are not. When asked, Reynerson says the Mexicans backed off because they aren’t yet ready to take the fort, sending in snipers to pick off men and cavalry to harass them.
They ask who’s in command and Reynerson says they have lots of commanders. One approaches and asks why Reynerson didn’t report the latest wounded man. He wants casualties reporting to him, not Colonel Bowie, and wants to know if there are reinforcements coming. Doug and Tony don’t know. Doug asks the man if he’s Colonel William Barrett Travis. He is, and he’s pleased to have more men to hold the fort. When asked, he says the date is March 6th. Afterwards, Doug says that the Mexicans will launch a final attack and, before the day is out, every man in the fort will be killed. Because they are in the Alamo.
Tik-Toc is watching the Mexican Army approaching. Anne tells Kirk the time of the final assault. That’s only nine hours away, giving them nine hours to get Doug and Tony out. Kirk wants USGS maps of the area. In the Alamo, Tony wants a chance to try and convince Travis what is going to happen.
Travis is on the battlements with Bowie, who says it’s the quiet before the storm. The Mexicans will swarm over the fort. Travis expects reinforcements; Bowie thinks even if they could get through, they wouldn’t be enough. Bowie leaves the battlements, leaving Travis there. Reynerson’s wife says they are running out of medical supplies, but Bowie won’t risk sending anyone through. Reynerson tells his wife that Bowie does understand. Reynerson himself will try to get medical supplies.
Tony approaches Travis and tells him that the Alamo will be attacked and every man inside will die. Reinforcements will not arrive in time. This goes about as well as expected. Travis ends up ordering Tony be locked in a storeroom, there’s a brawl, Doug joins in and both end up locked up, Doug being knocked out in the process. When he comes around, he’s not in great shape, and the sentry ignores Tony’s request for medical attention. The storeroom appears to have a, barred, window facing out of the fort’s wall. That’s not a great design. Tik-Toc don’t have accurate enough measurements to get Doug and Tony out.
Reynerson comes to see Doug and Tony. He tells them their doctor was killed and his wife is doing what she can. Men injured like Doug sometimes live, sometimes die. There’s a doctor, Armandez, who’s friendly, and a doctor and medicine could mean the difference between life and death but Travis won’t allow anyone out of the fort. Tony offers to go.
This involves disarming the guard, but Tony blunders into Travis outside. Another brawl gets away and, although Tony gets over the battlements, Bowie falls off the platform and injures himself badly.
Doug lets the guard go and Reynerson asks if what Doug said would happen will happen. He talks about how his wife believes in dreams and mediums; he wants her saving. Doug says that reinforcements won’t arrive; everyone in the fort will die. The colonies won’t manage to get an army together in time, but the war cry of the Texan after today will be ‘Remember the Alamo!’ Travis, with the guard released, tells another to try and shoot Doug through the barred window. He fails.
Tik-Toc is still trying to get them out before the Alamo is overrun, but now Doug and Tony are in separate places. Tony has been captured by a Mexican who will release him in exchange for money. Not something Tony has on him.
