“Luck Be a Lady” is episode three of season four of The Flash.
The man behind the Samuroid and other things is talking about observation subject two, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Sharpe. Three weeks ago, and he’s recapping some of the bad things in her life; she caught her boyfriend cheating and lost her job and believes no matter what she does the universe conspires to punish her. Her low self-esteem suggests she’s easily manipulated. Becky gets on a bus and one of the people on it is Killg%re from the previous episode, “Mixed Signals”. The bus is lit by a light from outside.
After a poor performance at laser tag, Barry, Caitlin and Cisco are with Joe, Candice and Iris when they get an alert. At S.T.A.R. Labs, Wally is waiting in the breach room with a teddy and flowers when Harry Wells comes through. Jesse isn’t coming. Harry has something for Wally, which starts playing a hologram then fizzles. Harry has to explain that this is a break-up cube and roughly what Jesse said. Then Iris gets an alert about a bank.
Becky walks into the bank as a weird sequence of events results in the security being out of commission and the camera mostly useless, allowing her to walk into the vault and take a couple of bags of money. Barry arrives as she gets outside, but slips on a barrel of marbles that was accidentally dropped.
The security video is almost useless but sketches reveal that this is Becky Sharpe, who has lived in Central City for the past three years. She’s in the system due to a lot of bad luck. Which Harry says is quantum entanglement, not luck. Barry says that it affects Becky in a positive way and everyone else negatively. She’s a meta, but she’s only been in Central City for three years so wasn’t affected by the particle accelerator explosion. Barry says Killg%re wasn’t either. Cisco had left some scanners in Barry’s suit and he reports trace amounts of dark matter.
Candice has called a plumber, and he tells her and Joe that they need new pipes. $15K. Candice suggests they could use it as a downpayment on a new house. It’s a big place for a couple of empty nesters and there will always be something needing replacing.
Iris has got her dress and Barry sees her in it. And it seems where they were planning to have the wedding burnt down. And their backup place went this morning.
Becky bumps into her ex and his secretary and bad things happen to the ex. The man says that Becky may be the most formidable, and the capricious nature of her power warrants further investigation.
Cisco and Harry are tracking the dark matter and squabbling when Barry arrives. They find the place where Becky was exposed to the dark matter. The middle of a street. Which Barry recognises as where he came out of the Speed Force in “The Flash Reborn”. There could have been a bus load of new metas created.
It seems that the man behind this planned for the metas to be created. And Becky’s affecting luck around her makes her very difficult to catch. Or even be near.
