The Flash – Infantino Street

“Infantino Street” is episode twenty-two of season three of The Flash.

The episode opens at night, at 12:03, with the message that it’s 24 hours until Iris West dies. H.R. and Tracy are working on the Speed Force bazooka; in the previous episode, “Cause and Effect”, Tracy solved it. Unfortunately, it needs more power than the Sun outputs. Although, at the end of the episode, something was shown that was being guarded, apparently, by King Shark. Cisco gets a message from Felicity Smoak; she hasn’t found anything that would work. Joe is staring at a photo when Wally comes downstairs. Iris and Barry are in bed, neither asleep. Iris says that she really fancies caviar and Barry promises to get a selection. Although it looks as if this was simply a distraction to get Barry out of there whilst Iris recorded a message on his phone.

In the morning, Cisco calls Barry. It seems he has good news. Barry and Cisco meet with Lyla outside A.R.G.U.S. Cisco mentions the cold and going inside. Lyla says that, as every square inch of the building is monitored, she thought it better to talk outside. Cisco loves the breeze. Using the S.T.A.R. Labs’ satellites, Cisco had discovered a power source suitable to power the Speed Force bazooka inside the building. There is; it’s a piece from the Dominators’ ship that crashed in Central City. But Barry can’t have it. No, it’s not about baby Sarah – Lyla’s daughter, who was replaced with a son, thanks to “Flashpoint” – but about why it happened. Barry admits he made a big mistake. That’s exactly Lyla’s point. This is the sort of tech that wars are fought over. Millions will die if it’s in the wrong hands. And Lyla isn’t sure she trusts Barry with it.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Joe is asking Barry if he’s serious. Not about Lyla’s refusal, but because Barry has decided to break into A.R.G.U.S. and steal the power source. He and Wally will simply phase through the walls. No, they won’t, Cisco tells him; the entire building is covered in a meta-human power dampener. Neither Barry nor Wally will have any powers. They can’t use another power source and there is nowhere on Earth that Savitar won’t find Iris. Joe recaps the situation. They want to break into the most fortified structure in the history of fortified structures, with no superpowers and with less than 14 hours to do it. And, Iris points out, none of them are master thieves. Barry agrees – but in a way that suggests he’s thought of something.

Which he has. In Siberia, 1892, Leonard Snart is heading towards the Waverider when he realises that Barry is behind him. Barry tells Snart he needs his help. Snart is already helping an idiot bunch of do-gooders. Barry offers to say please. Why Snart? Because Snart has a… particular set of skills. Great movie, according to Snart. The last time Barry teamed up with Snart – in “Rogue Air” – it didn’t work out so well for Barry. So why would Barry trust him now? Because otherwise Iris is going to die. Yews, true love is Barry’s pitch. Snart assumes that what Barry wants him for is less than lawful. It is. That’s Snart’s kind of mission. One condition. Snart’s rules.

H.R. is pitching silly ideas to break into A.R.G.U.S. when Barry arrives back with Snart. They thought Snart was with the Legends. Barry agrees he is. Cisco disagrees – Snart is dead. The others are less than happy that Barry is messing around with time travel again, but Barry promises to put Snart back where it was found.

Savitar is repairing his suit when Killer Frost enters; apparently Barry damaged it. Killer Frost thinks they are a team, Barry and Caitlin at it again. Except Savitar says that she isn’t Caitlin and he isn’t Barry. Killer Frost wants to know if Savitar is truly ready to kill Iris. After all, he has Barry’s memories and remembers Iris. It’s Savitar or Barry, and Savitar was created as a disposable life so why should he care about Barry’s love? Is Killer Frost having second thoughts? She says not – but that might not be entirely true. Savitar then gets Barry’s memories of meeting with Snart. He isn’t worried; no speed gun can stop a god.

Snart briefs the team. There are four rules: Make the plan, Execute the plan, Expect the plan to go off the rails, Throw away the plan. Barry has a way inside A.R.G.U.S. and wants Joe to take Iris somewhere he doesn’t know about. Which turns out to be Earth 2’s S.T.A.R. Labs, where Iris, Joe and Wally arrive in front of Harry.

Lyla is leaving A.R.G.U.S. for San Francisco when she seemingly arrives back with Snart – a gift from the Flash. ‘Lyla’ gets past the ID and retinal scanner, but is stumped by the security question. So, she takes the guards out. ‘She’ is Barry using H.R.’s transmogrifier.

So, Barry and Snart are in A.R.G.U.S. One place leads Barry to believe that this was where Amanda Waller kept her Suicide Squad. They don’t know about King Shark. That encounter leads to Snart promising that if Cisco saves him, Snart will put in a good word with his sister. Snart also states that there are no strings on him at one point – which is what he says in “Destiny”.

Despite all the changes, everything appears to be turning out the way that Barry foresaw. Which was badly.
