“Wake-Up Call: Part 2” is episode two of season two of The 4400.
In the previous episode, “Wake-Up Call”, Richard and Lily encountered a man who was opposed to the 4400 on religious reasons. The man and his two sons have arrived at their cabin. Whilst Lily waits in their car with Isabelle, Richard is disabling the man’s truck. They drive off under gunfire.
Nina Jarvis is meeting with Marco, Tom and Diana in the theory room; Abendsen is under quarantine. Abendsen’s staff and affected NTAC staff are confined to the site. Tom asks who will watch the watchers; the last group were compromised in hours. Which Diana finds a little disturbing. It’s like an epidemic, but the affected agents had no contact with Tess. She isn’t the sole vector; it’s more like the flu. Those affected can pass it on.
Jarvis asks what the thing being built is. Marco has a guess, and he states that it is just a guess, that Tess is telling the truth and it’s a communications device. Jarvis asks who it will contact. Tom suggests letting it be built to find out. The future humans were trying to tell them more at Holland Beach, but were cut short. Jarvis wonders if Tom and Diana have been affected too, though Marco agrees with them. However, Abendsen will be quarantined.
Shawn is confronting Jordan Collier about Kyle being thrown out when he tried to visit Shawn. Jordan admits that it could have been handled better. Jordan tells Shawn that he isn’t a prisoner, but he needs to sever contact with his old life. He can leave if he wants, though. It doesn’t look like Shawn wants to.
Diana arrives home to find Maia with another girl, who lives downstairs and has invited her to her birthday party and a sleepover.
Richard and Lily have stopped at a petrol station and are counting their cash and discussing plans. They need the shot-out back windows replacing.
Diana gets a knock on her door; Maia wanted to come home. The other girls had been teasing her about having a crush on Frank Sinatra. In bed, Maia doesn’t want to talk about it and says she doesn’t need friends.
Richard and Lily’s pursuers stop at the same petrol station and get directions.
Kyle is at home with Tom; Tom suggests he should be in bed. Kyle reminds his father he’s 21 now. Then the phone rings; it’s Shawn.
The pursuers catch up with Richard and Lily. Richard’s car blows a tyre and they veer off the road into the woods and have to continue on foot.
Diana wakes Maia, who wants to spend a bit more time in bed. Diana starts packing Maia’s bag and comes across a diary, with ‘Things I See’ written on it. Diana puts it back. At NTAC, she tells Marco – who gets distracted about the idea that Diana has a diary too – that she didn’t look in it. Marco says Diana won’t know what’s in it unless she looks; it might be visions. Diana says that Maia hasn’t had one in four months. Marco points out that it was Maia who told Diana that. As for why she’d lie, Maia wants to be normal and every time she made a prediction, she was called a freak. If Diana thinks it would be wrong for her to look, Marco could look. Diana says that once trust in a parent is lost, it’s hard to start again, and she is talking from experience.
Lily and Richard have stopped for a rest. Richard’s foot is hurt more badly than he’s telling Lily.
Diana tells Tom they need to pick up a returnee from the drunk tank. He has a better idea. Get Tess’s tower built. Jarvis wants results, and this is one way to get them. So, they smuggle Tess out of NTAC.
Richard was having a recurring nightmare about being in the woods. Now he looks to be living it. Shawn meets with Kyle; Kyle essentially thinks Shawn is drinking the Kool-Aid. Tess’s tower looks like it does something, but it might not do what she thinks.
