The 4400 – The New World, Part 2

“The New World, Part 2” is episode two of season three of The 4400.

In the previous episode, “The New World”, Gary Navarro was injecting something into Ryland’s IV. Gary leaves the room as Ryland starts seizing and the guards are asked if anyone has seen him. He’s caught as doctors are called for Ryland.

Isabelle had jumped from the roof of The 4400 Centre to save her mother. Richard comes out to see people standing around her body. He’s shouting for them to get an ambulance. As Isabelle stands up behind him, fully healed.

Shawn had been revealed to be at least partly responsible for the Nova Group, or at least the funding for it. He’s healed TJ and Daniel Armand (Ian Tracey) asks why people hate them so much, seeing what Shawn can do. Shawn says it’s because Daniel is killing them. Daniel says these are precise tactical strikes intended to make every 4400 safer. Shawn says this isn’t what they discussed when Daniel approached him. The money was for a defensive arm for the centre should the government ever come after them again. Shawn wants to know what happens on the 19th. Daniel tells him knowledge can be a burden. He doesn’t want to burden Shawn with it. Shawn should focus on the centre.

Tom and Diana are trying to interrogate Gary. They speak about Wesley Hauser. Gary liked him. He took him food and money on the streets, but one day found him dead. Hauser wouldn’t have minded being used that way; he hated people like them since his Marine Corps days. Then Gary pokes around and asks Tom about his fantasy worlds with Alana and wonders why Diana is embarrassed to talk to Tom about her seeing Marco.

They report to Jarvis and tell her it will take time to break Gary. Jarvis asks how long. Tom states Gary knows what they are thinking. Diana says a little longer than normal. However, Tom thinks he knows how to get inside Gary’s head.

Ross has returned to The 4400 Centre; the Nova Group altered his timetable. He asks about Lily and Shawn tells him, and about what happened to Isabelle. Isabelle is testing her healing ability with a candle when Ross knocks on her door. He introduces himself. Ross understands Isabelle attempted to harm herself. He slaps her. She has no right to do that. She doesn’t understand who she is and what she’s here to do. Ross does. He knows everything about why she’s here and what she’s supposed to do. He will tell her a story about her past and her future. It seems Ross knows far more about what’s going on than he’s let on.

Marco has got details on a 4400 school for Maia. Diana is uncertain. Burkhoff comes up; Marco asks what he’s working on. Diana thinks he may have been injecting himself with promicin serum.

She confronts Burkhoff, who says it’s ridiculous. He isn’t injecting himself with the promicin serum. He’s injecting himself with a modified version. Diana asks if he’s stopped taking his beds. Burkhoff insists he’s as sane as she is. He’ll be the first non-returnee to develop 4400 powers. The first of many. Diana asks if the world is ready. Burkhoff says the world is never ready for change. Diana says he shouldn’t do work of this magnitude in this dump. It’s hardly sterile. Burkhoff suggests Diana can help, monitor him as the changes continue. He’s already got marks on his torso. An exciting first step.

Tom is with Alana; she’s going to a seminar at The 4400 Centre. She doesn’t need to go; she’s curious. Before she was ill, she never felt the need to be around other 4400s.

Isabelle finds Shawn in her spot; she has a pile of books. Stalin, Pol Pot, the Marquis de Sade. She’s learning about evil. People are scared of her; what if they’re right that she’s bad? She feels capable of anything. Shawn says everyone is capable of anything. Isabelle wants to know what bad things he’s done. He indirectly mentions funding the Nova Group. Isabelle takes away that good and evil are a choice.

Tom and Diana are questioning Gary. They have a list of foreign 4400s who went missing shortly after Gary was in the same place. Gary is asked how many he killed. Gary insists he didn’t kill anyone. Gary is asked if that’s why he went to the Nova Group, when he found out what was happening. He’s about to talk when Jarvis comes in two NSA people sent to ‘help.’ Sent by Ryland, it seems. He doesn’t think Tom was moving fast enough. Yet all he’s managed to do is slow things down.

More is revealed about Ross, but all that does is create more questions. Shawn is regretting his funding of the Nova Group.
