“Lockdown” is episode eleven of season two of The 4400.
Thursday, July 28th, 5:37 PM and a sick-looking Maia is in a barricaded gym with Diana and some other people. Someone is trying to get in and Diana draws her weapon, telling Maia whoever is coming through the door, she will protect her. Tom storms in and draws his own gun. He and Diana are pointing them at each other.
Ten hours earlier and Tom is at home. He checks his emails and finds one saying that today is Jordan Collier’s birthday. He died on NTAC’s watch. Kyle comes in; in the previous episode, “Hidden”, someone else was arrested for killing Collier. Kyle says the other didn’t’ do it and Tom tells Kyle that Kyle didn’t either. Tom reassures Kyle that the suspect won’t be convicted of the murder. There isn’t enough evidence and Tom won’t let it happen. Neither will Kyle. Tom says to put it behind; it’s Kyle’s first day back at school.
Diana finds Maia still in bed; she says she doesn’t feel good. Diana checks and says she’s running a fever. Maia also has an odd rash on her arm.
Shawn is being interviewed about The 4400 Centre. He’s saying that people have more brainpower than they use, and someone figured out how to change this. The Centre wants to figure this out and share it. The interviewer suggests the Centre is more like a religion than scientific in nature; Shawn says it’s part faith, part science.
Four of the 4400 are waiting at NTAC at the medical unit. In the next room, a doctor is checking over Maia. He wants to keep her in for a few hours. Maia wishes she’d brought her stuffed dog and Diana says she will get it. Diana tells the doctor that in 7 years at the CDC, she’s never seen anything like Maia’s rash.
Richard is talking to Isabelle when Lily comes in. Lily suggests feeding Isabelle but Richard says she isn’t hungry. She started talking to him this morning, like she does with Lily. Lily says Isabelle hasn’t spoken to her in weeks. Richard says kids alternate parents. Just with Isabelle, it has a twist.
Jarvis is introducing a Major Culp (Roger Cross) and his team. They going to provide tactical backup when needed. Tom asks the others if they checked their emails. Yes; everyone got that email. Tom suggests having Marco backtrack it. Diana says he already did. A public terminal in an internet cafe and a new email account. Tom is taking valerian tablets; Alana swears by them and told him to take some to calm down. Diana suggests doubling the dose. She’d like Tom to cover for her for an hour. Maia has the flu and Dr Hudson wants to keep her in.
Kyle is telling Danny that the thing he was so worried about was a hit and run with another car. Danny thought he’d killed someone. Danny is right.
In the waiting room, the man asks if anyone else can hear the buzzing sound. The women cannot. The other men in NTAC do. Tom gets another email, saying have fun trying to survive the day. A gift to them. The male agents start arguing and Jarvis ask what happened. Tom, after snapping at her, explains the email. Jarvis tells everyone to calm down. They ignore her. She draws her gun. Agent Park shoots her and claims it was self-defence. Tom wants Jarvis taken to medical, then locks the place down.
Lily picks up Isabelle early from nursery. It looks like there are Rorschach cards amongst the flash cards. Shawn and Ross are watching his interview, then an interview with Dr Kevin Burkhoff, who was cured in “The 4400 – Wake-Up Call: Part 2”. Burkhoff thinks The 4400 Centre is a scam. The 4400 are real; the Centre is not.
Tom is disarming everyone, including himself, saying they need to find out who is behind this, despite everyone wanting to keep a gun to defend themselves. Then Major Culp comes in and takes over. His men are trained to resist things like this. He will find out who is responsible and make them stop.
Maia is getting worse. Diana is outside and desperate to get back in. Culp and his men are not able to defeat the effects, which means highly aggressive men with guns are roaming NTAC. And this is clearly a deliberate attack by someone unknown. Shawn, meanwhile, has been affected by the interview.
