The 100 – The Children of Gabriel

“The Children of Gabriel” is episode three of season six of The 100.

In the previous episode, “Red Sun Rising”, those on the ground got through the eclipse and those on the Mothership defeated – as in killed three out of four – those looking to hijack it. They landed and children from the settlement started returning to the compound as Murphy collapsed. He was the only one who appeared to be unaffected by the eclipse, but he became riddled by black veins.

The episode opens with more approaching and Bellamy and Clarke telling the others to be calm and put their weapons down. The sole survivor of the Mothership hijacking is asked where her family is; she says that the others killed them. Murphy has stopped breathing and a man comes forward. He says that Murphy is already dead, but fortunately for him death is not the end. He calls another man, Cillian, forward. Murphy has been exposed to seaweed during the red sun. Cillian also has a snake, called, appropriately enough, ‘Hideous Snake.’ The snake venom counteracts the toxin in Murphy, and he breathes again. There’s a statement that the poison made the demon Gabriel believe he could walk on water, and Clarke and the others are ordered locked up.

Emori can’t believe she did this to Murphy, who hasn’t woken up yet. Bellamy reassures her that it wasn’t Emori who did it; it was him. Octavia wants to leave; her brother is not happy to see her. Echo says they will need Octavia if they need to fight their way out. Something Clarke doesn’t want to do, as they need the locals to survive. Drinks are brought; if they survived the red sun, they need a drink. The drink is named after Josephine Prime – which gives a response of ‘Hallowed be her name.’ The Primes are the four families who were in the colonising team and their blood rules still.

The man from earlier arrives, with an escort. He, too, is a Prime. He wants to know who the pilot is. Clarke states that Kaylee Lee and her family stole their transport and boarded with force; Kaylee says she is lying because Clarke wasn’t there. The truth is between the statements. Clarke is told to bow before the man, Russell Lightbourne seventh of his line, by Russell’s wife. He says they can’t obey customs they are unaware of. The transport ship needs brining inside the barrier; there are worse things on the other side than eclipse induced psychosis. Things that would love to get their hands on weapons and the ship.

Abbie tells Clarke that Madi is on the ship. Russell wants their most disposable people chosen; on Clarke putting herself forwards, he doesn’t think she is disposable. Clarke says none of them are, but her child is out there. Russell wants to know if Clarke is the leader and Bellamy says she is. He, Raven, Echo and, at Echo’s gesture, Octavia, head out for the ship, along with guards.

At the ship, Gaia is trying to teach Madi about the Flame. She needs to master it. According to Madi, in her dreams she sees a Commander who frightens her. One eye and scars. The Dark Commander, according to Gaia; he needs resisting. The Flame amplifies the capacity for good, and evil. Diyoza thinks Gaia should let Madi be the child she is. Gaia claims the child defeated Diyoza’s army. Diyoza replies that wasn’t an army, and given everything that happened, she considers it a total failure to meet mission objective. At another comment, Diyoza draws a blade – then turns and hurls it into the forest, striking someone wearing a gas mask. More appear and fire darts, which leave them paralysed, but conscious.

Clarke is approached by a dog. She has never seen a dog. Russell approaches; this confirms what he was told. That Earth was destroyed. He had hope for man’s best friend. He wants to know how they got through the radiation shield, which has kept them safe for 200 years. Clarke explains that Shaw knew the failsafe code, and told them before he died. Those from Earth may be allowed to stay; it will be discussed at dinner in the palace. Bellamy and the others are approaching the edge of the shield, which turns out to be a dome.

Murphy revives, and knows he died. It’s confirmed that yes, his heart stopped, but he was revived. Murphy says he saw something, felt something; he’s pretty sure he’s going to die. Abbie explains to Clarke that she thought Madi was safer wherever Octavia wasn’t. Jordan is talking to a girl who served them drinks, Delilah. He seems to like her. Apparently, tomorrow she will become a Prime.

Those who attacked the transport ship call themselves the Children of Gabriel. Diyoza wants to know how many the others see; the dart hit her bulletproof vest, so she wasn’t affected. The attackers appear to be chopping off the head off one of the bodies, saying that when the old man sees it, he will come back. One of those killed on the ship appeared to be a Prime as well, and they start chanting ‘Death to Primes!’ Those coming from the compound hear this, and turn back, but Bellamy and the others stay to retake the ship.

There are yet more problems, Clarke is seen wearing a dress for probably the first time ever and her reputation causes doubts. The Children of Gabriel are presumably outcasts who followed the ‘demon Gabriel’ – those within the compound seem to treat the Primes with religious awe.
