Superman and Lois – Loyal Subjekts

“Loyal Subjekts” is episode nine of season one of Superman and Lois.

Leslie Larr is showing someone in to see Morgan Edges and Lois and Chrissy are at the Gazette wondering why edge is in Smallville. Yes, to mine and use the X-Kryptonite but this is the only town he’s been sticking around in. Smallville itself must be needed. Lois says they need to dig deeper and use every resource, like Clark and Lana, so they can connect the dots.

Edge is talking to Lana’s friend Emily about how he knows she suffers from pain and fear and with his help that will go away. She’ll be improved and have a better life. The process will make her feel like a new person, capable of things she never dreamed possible. Emily agrees and is fed into the machine. Complete host acceptance is reported and, when Emily comes out, she tells edge he’s done well. In what’s probably Kryptonian.

Lois wants to convince people to stay away from Morgan Edge and his process. They won’t listen to her, but they will to Clark, Martha Kent’s son. Jordan gets ribbed by everyone about Sarah as he and Jonathan head to school.

Lana is at the Gazette with Lois and Chrissy. The only change she’s seen in the people Edge has been dealing with is that they are happy and truly excited to be there. They have mornings together at Victoria’s, camaraderie building breakfasts. Lois is concerned Lana is getting into danger.

At school, Kyle calls the boys over to thank Jordan for helping Sarah with her audition. Afterwards, Sarah is talking to Jordan about her father and sees Jonathan eying up Tegan Wickhem. She warns him to stay away from her.

Clark happens to enter the diner and Emily greets him; he knows her, of course. Emily talks about how working with Morgan Edge has changed her life. She feels great and has better focus and problems that seemed impossible are like nothing now. Emily thinks Clark is looking for work and tells him to talk to Lana; she’s sure Lana will be happy to help her old boyfriend. Emily leaves with the others and Clark hears a bank robbery in process. He flies there and seems slightly out of breath when he lands. He takes down most of the robbers, but one shoots him in the back and knocks him out briefly. Superman is still victorious, but it was an effort.

Lois has returned to the Gazette; Edge has dropped off an ad for more people for his programme. Lois heads to Edge’s and crashes a meeting, telling everyone not to trust Edge. Everyone leaves her alone with Edge and she says she knows what he’s doing; putting Kryptonian consciousnesses into people that are taking them over and giving them powers. They both know the truth. Edge thinks the truth is subjective. She can’t stop this and perhaps it’s time to use her device to call her super friend. But remember where he’s from; he may find comfort in knowing there are others here like him. As John Irons prophesised. Lois tells Edge Superman is nothing like that. Edge is excited to find out.

Lois arrives back home to find Clark treating bruises caused by bullets. Superman does not bruise. As Lois points out. Clark thinks this is to do with the gas Rosetti used in the previous episode, “Holding the Wrench”. Lois has to call her father.

Jordan is practicing with Sarah when he suddenly sneezes ice into his hand. He calls for his father, who says he’s infected too. The Kryptonian gas was a bioweapon and it seems it’s communicable. Sam says this wasn’t supposed to happen. Lois thinks that a weapon supposed to hurt Superman would hurt Superman. Sam has people working on it.

Jordan is sick – which means he’s not going to be able to help Sarah. Clark is not at full strength for the same reason. Edge thinks Lana is sneaking around – he’s right. Lois is really not happy with her father – justifiably. And Morgan Edge finally reveals something.
