“Broken Trust” is episode six of season one of Superman and Lois.
At the end of the previous episode, “The Best of Smallville”, a now-powered Tag confronted Jordan, blaming him for what had happened. He’s now demanding to know what Jordan did to him; he saw the video and Jordan caused the explosion. Tag is pounding on Jordan, saying he’s different too and he wants to know how to fix it. Jordan summons Superman, and Tag flees at high speed. Superman follows, but Tag, possibly by accident, wrecks the rails in front of a train when he crosses them and Superman has to stop and prevent the accident.
Back home, Lois treats Jordan, who says he tried to fight back but Tag was stronger and faster. Clark tells Jordan his abilities are evolving; he heals faster but he can still get hurt. Jordan explains that Tag wanted answers; he thinks Jordan did this to him.
Clark tells Lois that Sam called; Tag’s escape was a fluke. Lois says that whatever gave Tag the powers came from the mines and Morgan Edge wants to extract more to make more Derek Powells. Clark can’t see inside the tunnels; they’ve been lined with lead. Lois will investigate; she ants Clark to focus on the boys until Tag is back in custody. Lois thinks it’s a bit of a coincidence that Edge is giving people Kryptonian powers at the same time some armoured lunatic who knows Superman’s real name arrives. Clark asks Lois if she thinks Morgan Edge is the Stranger. Maybe.
At breakfast, Clark suggests Jordan not go to the next game. It’s against Metropolis, their old school, though and Jordan really wants to do it. He promises he’s 100% good to go – possibly lying – and Clark says okay. After school, Jordan can prove it.
Morgan Edge is giving a press conference outside the mines, then speaks to Kyle and Lana after. He wants to offer Lana a new job, leader of the Smallville team. Leslie Larr sees Lois hanging around after and offers to deal with her. Edge asks why bother. Lois is talking to ‘Marcus’ – Luthor, the actual Stranger – about getting into the mines.
At school, Jordan and Jonathan are talking when Jordan has a pain in his head. Sarah speaks to them, and afterwards, when the bell rings, Jordan has more pain and his eyes start to glow. Jonathan bundles him into the bathroom and Jordan admits that since Tag jumped him, he’s been hearing a really loud high-pitched noise. Jonathan wants to tell their father – Jordan might need to go to the Fortress – but Jordan refuses. He wants to go to the game and show up the guys who made his life hell.
Lois visits Lana and Kyle, to see if they can get her into the mine so she can prove Morgan Edge is doing something illegal and dangerous. She tells them Superman is looking into Edge as well. She can’t tell them more. Neither wants to help her get in; Kyle doesn’t think Lois is helping and Lana explains how the town was drying up. Lois warns them something sinister is going on and they might not find out what until too late. Be careful.
Clark wants Jordan to punch a tree trunk he practiced on when he was young. The first time, Jordan hurts his hand. Clark explains how to do it and Jonathan tells Jordan to pretend it’s Cutter, a guy from their old school. This time Jordan makes a dent. The Sam calls; Tag has been spotted in Metropolis. He plans to put the monster back in a cage.
Sam’s information isn’t totally accurate; Tag is outside the Cushings’ house as Sarah is saying she will babysit Sophie so her mother and father can go out for a meal.
At the game, Jordan has a problem again and their quarterback ends up out with a sprained elbow. Jonathan asks to go on instead and the coach agrees. This time, Jordan manages to take down the opposing player – Cutter – and Jonathan throws. Clark warns Jordan to reign it in.
Lois is trying to get a press pass when Luthor shows up. He has two inspector passes for the mines. One for him, one for Lois. He explains why this is a good idea. Lois is not impressed with the uniform.
Sophie and Sarah are trying to agree on what to watch when there’s a knock on the door. Sarah assumes it’s pizza, but it’s Tag, and he accidentally knocks her out. At the match, Smallville win, but Jordan starts suffering problems and Clark has to take an eye beam to his hand to prevent anyone getting hurt.
Clark is not happy to find Jordan was keeping his problem secret. He’s also not happy with how Sam and the DoD are planning to treat Tag. And Tag has kidnapped Sarah. Not with the intention of harming her, but he can cause harm by accident.
