“Exodus” is episode fifteen of season two of Supergirl.
In the previous episode, “Homecoming”, Mon-El was right not to trust Jeremiah, as the latter stole the list of all the aliens on the national alien registry from the DEO.
This episode opens with a couple and their daughter driving in a car. The couple are singing loudly, much to their daughter’s disgust, when a police car comes up behind them and sounds its siren. The daughter says that even the police can’t stand her parents’ singing. The officer tells the drive he has a broken taillight, but he has some tape for that and will help the driver put it on. However, there is no broken taillight. The officer cuffs the driver, whose face morphs as a black van pulls up. The three in the car are actually aliens, and they are kidnapped.
At the DEO, Kara is looking at this case; it’s the 20th abduction so far since Cadmus stole the alien registry. J’onn says they are getting more aggressive, and wonders what Cadmus is done with those taken. Mon-El says that what Cadmus wants with them is the trillion-dollar question – Winn corrects him, saying it’s the million-dollar question; Mon-El feels that’s a low number.
Winn hasn’t found hide nor hair of Cadmus, and posits that Jeremiah may have taught them how to avoid the DEO’s searches. J’onn says that Jeremiah will now be treated as an enemy combatant, and will be arrested on sight. Kara wants to let the aliens know about the risk. Mon-El will tell those at the bar, but Kara doesn’t feel that’s enough. J’onn says the DEO can’t make an official statement without breaking cover; they are off the books for a reason. Mon-El suggests an anonymous tip but the problem is nobody will take it seriously. According to Kara, if CatCo made the announcement, it might be listened to. She will write an article and get Snapper to put it on the front page. When asked if Snapper will run it, Kara is confident he will.
Only she didn’t sound as confident as that and she was right to; Snapper turns it down. He doesn’t want to start a public panic. Even if Supergirl went on the record; Kara is using Supergirl as her source every time she wants to get something past Snapper. Yes, Snapper did say a good reporter cultivates their sources – but that was sources, plural, not singular. There is too much fake news out there and he is not going to risk it. He wants two independent sources. Kara suggests that Snapper interview Supergirl, flattering him.
Alex and Maggie are playing pool, and Alex isn’t doing well. She already owes Maggie a bottle of Scotch, dinner and a flash grenade. Alex is thinking about her father. Maggie reassures her, saying the DEO will find Jeremiah. Which is actually what Alex is worried about. The DEO views Jeremiah as a threat. Alex thinks that there must be a reason why Jeremiah sided with Cadmus; threats, blackmail, mind control.
Winn and Lyra are talking to James; Winn took Lyra to see Dune. James asks Lyra how long she has been on Earth. A couple of years, but she learned English off world. James says her English is good, but he’s actually more impressed with how well she speaks Winn. Shortly afterwards, there’s an explosion and men with guns attack the bar. The two aliens, one of the Lyra, are taken. Alex follows and another of the kidnappers grabs her but James, as Guardian, takes him out.
Winn is worried and, according to J’onn, Cadmus has taught the kidnapper they caught how to shield his thoughts. Winn starts having a go at Alex’s father when Mon-El interrupts. No, he wasn’t going to suggest having a drink, just everyone taking a deep breath. But having a drink is a better idea. Alex goes to the kidnapper’s cell and, unsurprisingly, starts pounding on him until J’onn drags her off. J’onn suggests that Mon-El is right. They should take a deep breath. Or have a drink.
Kara, as Supergirl is interviewed by Snapper. However, she won’t reveal her source about the theft of the alien registry. Not even off the record. So, Snapper doesn’t consider that enough. Afterwards, Snapper tells Kara that he has nothing. Supergirl only told parts of the truth, and it isn’t a journalist’s job to cherry pick the truth. A half-truth is a whole lie.
Alex is at home when Jeremiah appears. He tells her that Cadmus is going to slaughter the aliens and needs her help stopping it, by stealing something from the DEO. Which sounds dodgy. When Alex agrees, Jeremiah morphs into J’onn. J’onn feared that Alex’s judgement was compromised, and suspends her. Elsewhere, in a Luthor Corp facility, Lillian and Jeremiah watch as the aliens are taken to what looks like a spaceship.
Kara thinks that J’onn was right to suspend Alex; she agrees with his assessment, if not his methods. Maggie does not, and suggests that they do something about it. Kara is still trying to get her article out there. Lena Luthor suggests that Kara blog about it instead. Mon-El gives Kara some advice on this, but there will be consequences. Jeremiah reveals the reason why he was working for Cadmus.
At the end of the episode, it looks as if whatever secret related to Mon-El started cropping up at the end of “Supergirl Lives” is about to be revealed.
