“Within The Serpent’s Grasp” is episode twenty two of season one of Stargate SG-1 and the season finale.
After the arrogant and short sighted Senator Kinsey visited the SGC in the previous episode, “Politics”, and was little impressed by it (he was already against the Stargate programme before he even visited the SGC) the Stargate programme has been shut down.
SG-1 decide to go through the gate without authorisation to the co-ordinates that Daniel came back from the alternate universe he visited in “There But for the Grace of God” with, as they feel that the risk posed to Earth by a potential Goa’uld invasions is too severe to ignore, no matter what Kinsey thinks.
The Goa’uld facility they visit turns out to be something more than that – it’s a starship owned by Apophis that’s heading to attack Earth. It’s going to get there a lot sooner than it was originally thought. Which is bad.
I wonder why the interior of the ship is covered in Egyptian hieroglyphics. There doesn’t seem to be a practical reason for it. Maybe the set designers just thought it would look good.
A cliffhanger ending to the season, with the story continuing in “The Serpent’s Lair”.
