“The Tok’ra: Part 2” is episode twelve of season two of Stargate SG-1.
In the previous episode, “The Tok’ra: Part 1”, SG-1 had managed to find the Tok’ra, thanks to Sam’s memories from the Goa’uld (or, rather, Tok’ra) who had possessed her in “In The Line of Duty”, the Goa’uld who oppose the System Lords and did not possess hosts like them but instead enjoyed a more symbiotic relationship.
SG-1 had proposed an alliance, but the Tok’ra refused and, as a consequence, decided not to let SG-1 return to Earth until they had moved to a new world. Even though Sam Carter’s father was dying. Coincidentally, so was one of the Tok’ra, and they were looking for a new person to volunteer as a host. SG-1 refused, but there was a obvious alternative, even though no means of pursuing it, or a suggestion of it, had happened yet.
Sam quickly proposes the obvious choice, her father as a host, because joining with the Tok’ra will cure his cancer. A supply of willing hosts is something the Tok’ra need, and something Earth could provide.
I wonder if they ever take the MALPs back? Those things must cost a bit, and they often seem to abandon them on different planets. In which case they must use up a lot of them. And who makes them, and what do they think they are being used for?
