Stargate SG-1 – Message in a Bottle

“Message in a Bottle” is episode seven of season two of Stargate SG-1.

SG-1 are visiting a dead world with no atmosphere which requires the use of spacesuits (that’s why you send a probe through first, to check that the conditions are actually liveable). They are looking for something that the probe detected broadcasting that had been apparently doing so for thousands of years. The object is really advanced so they transport it back to Stargate Command.

When the artefact starts behaving oddly they decide to return it through the stargate but it objects and spikes itself into the gate room – one of the spikes going through Colonel O’Neill. Bit of an ouch.

The world they visit is dead and has no atmosphere but frankly the state of it, such as the craters on the surface, would seem to suggest that it had been dead for much longer than the hundred thousand years stated. Impact craters don’t generally form overnight, and don’t form with a sufficient atmosphere.
