“Absolute Power” is episode seventeen of season four of Stargate SG-1.
SG-1 is visiting Abydos, where Kasuf, the father of Daniel’s now-dead wife, Sha’re, has been hearing a voice. When they arrive at the spot, they come across a young boy who says he is Shifu, the Hartesis child of Sha’re who was taken away by some otherworldly being (an Ancient?) in “Maternal Instinct”. If he is, he has grown extremely quickly in the time that has passed. SG-1 takes the child back to the SGC.
Shifu is, as the Hartesis child, supposed to have all the genetic memories of the Goa’uld, although these memories have been buried so that they do not harm him. However, both SGC and the Tok’ra need the memories to fight the Goa’uld.
Shifu gives Daniel access to the memories. Initially, this seems like an advantage as he gains the knowledge of the Goa’uld, but it starts to have an unfortunate effect on him, as he starts behaving like the Goa’uld. Evidently, remembering like a Goa’uld causes behaviour like a Goa’uld. Which does beg the question as why doesn’t it have the possibility of behaving like a Tok’ra instead? That would at least have seemed like a potential outcome.
