“48 Hours” is episode fourteen of season five of Stargate SG-1.
SG-1 is under attack by Goa’uld Death Gliders, and a larger ship, an Al’kesh. They flee through the stargate, but Teal’c shoots down the larger craft which is being piloted by Tanith, finally getting revenge for Tanith’s murder of Shaun’auc in “Crossroads”. The ship crashes into the stargate; the rest of SG-1 make it through the gate, but Teal’c does not appear. The crashing ship could have shut down the wormhole whilst Teal’c was en-route.
Carter believes that Teal’c’s energy pattern has been stored inside the stargate’s buffer. They need to figure out how to get Teal’c’s energy pattern from the gate before the stargate is activated.
This episode sees Dr. Rodney McKay – who will in the future have a major role in Stargate: Atlantis – appear for the first time. Major Carter is not at all impressed with him.
