“Workforce, Part II” is episode seventeen of season seven of Star Trek: Voyager.
In the previous episode, “Workforce”, Neelix had managed to beam back to Voyager with B’Elanna, but Chakotay was trapped by two guards and Voyager was fleeing under fire. Chakotay smashes something that was powering a force field and, when a guard approaches, uses that as a distraction to attack. He manages to shoot both guards, but gets injured in the process.
Voyager can’t penetrate the shields of the attacking ships. The Doctor comes up with something from his tactical database and tries it, knocking their pursuers out. They want to go back for Chakotay, but there are five more ships, Voyager is damaged and the transporters are out. Harry asks the Doctor what his tactical database recommends they do now. Retreat and make a new plan. Harry agrees.
Chakotay has headed back to the bar, hiding his injured arm. The captain comes over and apologises for Jaffen’s behaviour earlier. He can join them if he likes. Chakotay says he’s a little tired and will head home. The captain says he’s welcome if he changes his mind; they’re celebrating because she’s moving in with Jaffen.
A guard and a criminal investigator, Yerid, arrive at the bar and speak to Tom about two people who disappeared. A young pregnant woman – Tom recognises her – and the person with her, describing Neelix. Tom says he thinks he was called Neelix. Yes, he was talking to someone else, and indicates Chakotay. Or, rather, where Chakotay was.
Voyager is hiding inside a moon’s crater and the Doctor is working on B’Elanna. Her memory centres have been radically altered; Neelix says the crew could remember parts of their lives but got details wrong. The Doctor thinks he can undo the damage, but it will take time. Neelix wants to help and the Doctor recommends that he show B’Elanna her real life.
Tuvok is restrained in a hospital and is being examined by two doctors. The younger, Ravoc, thinks Tuvok is suffering from the older, Kadan, has described as being Dysphoria Syndrome, very rare. Kadan agrees, and says he’s worked on Tuvok before. The recommended treatment is engrammatic resequencing.
Seven, who Tuvok briefly mind melded with, is having visions of a Borg ship’s interior. She heads to the supervisor’s office and asks him about Tuvok. She wants to know Tuvok’s condition; some of the workers are concerned it might be contagious. Yerid arrives at this point, investigating the disappearance of Neelix, B’Elanna and Chakotay; Chakotay because he’s believed to be responsible for the disappearance of the other two.
Janeway is unpacking at Jaffen’s, and heads back to her apartment to get more. She finds a bloody cloth and turns on the lights, finding Chakotay there with a gun. He thought she was moving out. Yes, he did disappear B’Elanna, because she was brought here against her will and made to forget her real life. There are others; she has to trust him. The captain points out he’s pointing a weapon at her. He puts it down. She decides something needs doing about his arm.
Janeway heads back to the power plant to get a dermal regenerator. Seven confronts her, but is distracted when the supervisor leaves, as she was waiting for that. She looks up various files and discovers that Tuvok had been looking at the files of a lot of workers who joined at the same time he did.
The captain is treating Chakotay and he’s talking about Voyager when Harry contacts him. Voyager is 8 lightyears away; B’Elanna came up with a method of covering the distance. Her memories are coming back. Harry asks Chakotay if he’s located anyone else. Yes; he’s sitting with Captain Janeway right now. The shield grid will need disabling before the crew can be beamed off. After the call, Chakotay explains the truth to the captain, and says he can prove it. First, he uses the dermal regenerator to remove the Quarren disguise. He and Janeway are the same species.
There’s an extensive conspiracy that’s getting brainwashed workers for industry, but there are more people who are not in it. Which means the conspiracy has cracks in it where it might come apart, if exposed.
