“Looking for par’Mach in All the Wrong Places” is episode three of season five of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
With a truce between the Klingon Empire and the Federation having come into place in “Apocalypse Rising”, a party of Klingons has arrived on the station, led by a woman. Worf is instantly attracted to her, but this is actually Grilka, Quark’s ex-wife from “The House of Quark”.
The recent conflict between the Federation and the Klingons has caused financial damage to Grilka’s House. Money not really being a Klingon thing, even though they need it, Grilka has come to the station to ask for Quark’s help – although not outright ask for it. Quark agrees, but he also still holds feelings for Grilka, and wants to romance her. Worf, whose own efforts in that direction will never get anywhere, helps Quark in his efforts. Grilka’s chief bodyguard is not happy about his mistress being pursued by a Ferengi.
This episode is all about romance (par’Mach is the Klingon word for love). During Quark’s pursuit of Grilka and Worf’s pining over the latter, Dax is dropping not-so-subtle hints to Worf, although they are subtle enough that he misses them. Major Kira, who is now living with the O’Briens, finds that she and Miles are getting far too close to each other for the comfort of either party, although Keiko doesn’t seem to notice.
