Sliders – The Exodus, Part 2

“The Exodus, Part 2” is episode eighteen (originally shown as episode seventeen) of season three of Sliders.

The professor is listening to someone saying they live in Delaware and he comments that they don’t any longer when Maggie and Quinn return. In the previous episode, “The Exodus, Part 1”, Quinn had arrived on his home world but Maggie was unable to breathe due to something in the atmosphere. As Maggie is taken to the infirmary, Quinn tells the professor that their home coordinates are in the timer.

In the infirmary, Jensen says that Quinn never said she could die. Quinn says this never happened before; their lungs must be different. Jensen’s gratitude for Quinn saving Maggie’s life isn’t high; he more fixated on how she and Quinn are looking at each other. Quinn says if Jensen doesn’t like it, he should talk to his wife. She’s just someone that Quinn has to put up with. The nurse comes over and says Maggie will be recovered in a few hours, but if Quinn had taken any longer, she’d be dead.

The other three Sliders quiz Quinn on whether it’s true that they’ve found their home world. Rembrandt wants to go now. Quinn says there are lives to save. Besides, even if they could transfer the coordinates to their timer, which they can’t, it won’t hit zero until after the pulsars hit. They have to slide with the others. Rembrandt wants to use the other timer and leave theirs. They can wait in the catacombs until the timer hits zero. Rembrandt, and Wade, both want to leave now. Rembrandt to the extent that he ends up slugging Quinn to try and get the timer. Wade follows Rembrandt as he stalks off, and she’s not polite either. Though Rembrandt had a point about wanting to get home, he was perfectly willing to risk killing a bunch of people to do so. The professor reassures Quinn it will be sorted out when they get home.

Rembrandt is with Malcolm in a church, and he tells him that there’s a way off. At the back, Rickman attacks one of the others quietly.

Quinn bumps into Maggie. She’s not happy about being saved either; Quinn jeopardised the mission. He should have left her. She’d do the same. Rickman is packing away some of the substance he needs when he’s told a crowd is gathering outside, thinking there’s a fallout shelter. He gives the order to shoot to kill.

Rembrandt tells Wade he told Malcolm about sliding and that he’d try to get him off. Wade is upset, because she is the one picking people. By adding a name, she kills another. Rembrandt is thinking about saving one life. She thinks about everyone who isn’t being saved. Rembrandt doesn’t know them; he does know Malcolm. Wade says the colonel is now screening for people with specific DNA and brain chemistry.

Jensen is trying to talk Maggie into taking more time to recover, but the colonel says there’s no time. In less than 6 hours they need to be on a different world. Maggie reassures her husband she’ll either be with him at the end of this world or at the beginning of the next one. After she and Quinn slide, Rickman asks for the final numbers. Jensen says that he can only guarantee passage for 140. The professor thinks maybe ten more and wants to run the figures again. Rickman says no; plan around 140. He’s going to tell everyone there’s a way off world. He isn’t going to tell them only some will go. People will be separated into two groups. One of which will stay. The professor decides to run the figures anyway.

Quinn and Maggie are on the last world they have time for. It’s inhabited, but by less evolved beings. Maggie says they have no choice but to pick this world. They arrive back and say the world will have to do. An alarm sounds as the outer gates are breached. Jensen has modified their timer to track wormholes; transferring the coordinates will take longer. The power goes out and Jensen goes to deal with it. The professor suggests Quinn gather the others up and they all stay together.

Wade and Rembrandt are trying to add Malcolm to the list. It turned out it worked, but the list has 150 names on it, not 140. Because the last ten are coma patients. It seems Rickman doesn’t care about the survival of anyone but himself and is ensuring that he will live.
