Sliders – Mother and Child

“Mother and Child” is episode fourteen of season four of Sliders.

The Sliders are leaving a world in 40 minutes and are going to lay low, worried they spotted Kromaggs. Quinn and Maggie go to take a look. In a Kromagg base, the commander is reprimanding the subcommander for allowing a breeder to escape with an infant. Another Kromagg says there are other indicators in the same area. The subcommander tells him to take a unit to have a look.

Quinn and Maggie see a woman, who has a baby with her. She asks where they came from. And recognises Quinn’s name, saying Maggie must be Maggie then. Her name is Christina Griffin and Wade told her about them. Christina says they need to keep moving; by now they know she’s escaped. From a Kromagg breeder camp.

Christina asks if she can come with them when they slider. Rembrandt and Colin arrive and Christina knows who Rembrandt is. It’s explained how. Wade is alive as far as she knows. Rembrandt wants to do something. Quinn says they don’t have enough time and Christina says it’s too late anyway; Wade and the others were shipped out yesterday to make room for new arrivals. Christina reassures Rembrandt that Wade doesn’t think he deserted her or blame him at all.

The Kromagg patrol reports they are picking up several indicators. The commander demands to know from the subcommander who else is out there.

Christina is taken back to the cave and Maggie remains with her and the baby as the others go outside. Colin thinks the baby looks perfectly normal. Rembrandt says they do for the first year. Colin thinks he hears something and they go to check it out. Maggie is talking to Christina. The baby is 8 months old; at nine they are taken to be soldiers. Christina couldn’t stand to look at her baby at first. And she still hasn’t picked a name.

The others have spotted a Kromagg patrol and return. Colin wants Quinn to come up with an idea. Maggie says the Kromaggs are looking for a woman. So, give them one. She lies down in the road and the patrol stops. They are quickly taken prisoner. 18 minutes until they slide and Christina wants to know if they can take her home. Yes, if they knew the coordinates. Christina says they are in the Kromagg central databank. Quinn gives one of the Kromaggs a choice. Work with them or die.

The Kromagg is going to access the terminal in his vehicle but first he has to report. He says it was a false alarm. To find Christina and Wade, he needs their ID numbers. Christina knows hers but not Wade’s. Her world is found; it seems the Kromaggs pulled out. He can’t find Wade directly, so has to scroll through the records. Which is noticed at the Kromagg base. The commander is not happy. Access is now prevented and more troops are being sent in. The Sliders end up having to steal the Kromagg vehicle and drive it into the vortex. They arrive in the next world, which is being rebuilt. Christina thinks it’s right.

The subcommander is told about the Sliders leaving. The two Kromaggs who were captured are promised a fair trial, ending in a military execution. It will be very nice. The subcommander recaps what happened. The commander says there was a Dynasty directive not to detain them, but they are now considered extremely dangerous and need to be taken down by any means. The subcommander wants to take a commando team to that world. Except no Kromagg is permitted to go to it on pain of death.

The Sliders are wondering how the Kromaggs were driven away. The world doesn’t seem very friendly; they may not be Kromaggs, but are strangers. They arrive at Christina’s home. Her father answers the door; her mother died in the fighting. Christina explains what happened to her and that the other helped them escape. Her father, Jonathan, believed only Kromaggs could slide. Quinn explains and Christina vouches for them.

Christina may be home, but there are problems. Related to how the Kromaggs were drive off the world and why the Kromagg Dynasty forbids any from returning.
