“Sanctuary for None – Part I” is episode twelve of season four of Sanctuary and the first episode of the two part season and series finale.
The episode opens with Richard Feliz, the money man that Magnus recruited to help in “Monsoon”, arriving at the Sanctuary to talk to Magnus in person. It seems she was refusing to speak to him on the phone. Feliz wants to quit as her banker, not because Magnus is out of money – she now has more, well hidden – or because he doesn’t like her; he does – but because of what Magnus wants to do with the money. Which is not mentioned in the rest of the episode. Magnus asks for one last favour, which is to shut down Wall Street for 12 minutes. Again, this isn’t mentioned afterwards.
An Abnormal has been cornered by some humans, who clearly don’t have his best interests in mind. Will shows up, but is disarmed, and things don’t look good until another Abnormal, one of many, picks up Will’s weapon and stuns two of the humans. The Abnormal, Caleb, is the leader of the Hollow Earth insurgents, and the most wanted man, but he wants to talk to Magnus.
At the Sanctuary, a rather unhappy Tesla has turned up, and is trying to get drunk. Alcohol has no effect on vampires, so he’s not having much luck. Tesla has been fired from SCIU; the accountants discovered, as was mentioned in “Resistance”, that Tesla was skimming to fund his own research. Also that his heart wasn’t really in it. Henry is somewhat sympathetic, when Tesla tells him the government has taken all of his research.
Magnus meets with Caleb, who says he wants to stop the violence and build a new homeland for the Hollow Earth Abnormals, in the Fifth Ward of Old City. Magnus is sympathetic to this; Addison, when she contacts him, is not. Will is also not sure that Caleb can be trusted. Kate is also being brought back from Hollow Earth to help.
Addison also approaches Will and recruits him. Without option; Addison has the authority to reactivate former federal agents, which Will used to be. Abby will also be brought in. Will is not happy about this, but Magnus is rather happier – she knew it was always a possibility.
Tensions have been rising between Will and Magnus, because she is keeping secrets and saying that all will be revealed when he is ready. This just makes matters worse. Magnus clearly has some sort of plan, that uses her money and shutting down Wall Street, but nothing about it is revealed. It may be part of what she decided on the long way home after the events of “Tempus”. And what of Bigfoot? In “Acolyte” it turned out that the Crixorum had tampered with his brain, turning him to the violent cause of the Hollow Earth insurgents. Although he is supposed to be getting better, at the end of the episode he met with the insurgents again. A ploy, or was the Crixorum right when he said that Bigfoot’s brain couldn’t be fixed after what he did?
Even if Caleb is genuine in his desire for a peaceful solution, Addison seems to have no interest in one, bringing matters to a head for the finale, “Sanctuary for None – Part II”.
