Sanctuary – Acolyte

“Acolyte” is episode ten of season four of Sanctuary.

Will and Declan are looking for a road and talking to Henry. There has been no word from Magnus and the road appears to be blocked, so they get out of the car and run up to a hill overlooking a distant, large building. Will tries contacting Magnus on a walkie talkie, telling her she needs to get out right away. Then the building blows up and collapses into rubble.

The episode then goes back three days earlier and Will is trying to get out of doing something for Magnus when Declan calls and says that someone needs to speak to them. It’s Kate, who hasn’t been seen since she departed for Hollow Earth with Garris at the end of “Uprising”.

She has news. Two days ago some Abnormals returned back from the surface, the passage arranged through the Moscow Sanctuary by Magnus. According to Kate, one of the returning Abnormals approached her and said that a terrorist attack was being planned against the surface by a group of Abnormals wanting to start a war between humans and Abnormals. The attack, against key targets, has been planned for months, and the group, whoever they are, has the ability to carry out the attack. Kate is not certain that the information is accurate, but that it is worrying. So Will and Magnus head to London.

The decision is made to tell Bigfoot to return, for he was heading to Hollow Earth, but he proves hard to get hold of. Henry is also having difficulty confirming, by trying to hack the intelligence agencies, whether the attack is genuine. Tracking down the location of a possible splinter cell, using information on an Abnormal who has been captured, that may be connected to the attack results in finding everyone there already dead, and not at the hands of professionals. Which seems to suggest that someone was eliminating potential security leaks or consolidating ahead of an attack.

Evidence recovered from the cell leads to a SCIU summit in Lisbon. One which Greg Addison, the investigator seen in “Untouchable”, is attending – but Tesla is not. Magnus says they have to warn Addison, no matter what her personal opinions of the man are.

Addison says he’s surprised, as he thought Magnus’ people were behind the attack. Because he has photos and recordings that show Bigfoot meeting with hardcore extremists, and he seems to be their new leader. Biggie is himself out of contact currently, but Magnus and the others don’t really believe it. But Henry investigates the photos and can find no evidence that they are fake. He does find a flash drive in Bigfoot’s room that appears to confirm his involvement. Is Bigfoot actually siding with the extremists? Magnus quickly figures out what has happened – the Crixorum, the Abnormal with serious mind control powers that they had captured had managed to tamper with Bigfoot’s brain. So that Bigfoot would continue with the Crixorum’s plan.

Games are being played by both SCIU and the extremists, but it looks like the extremists are winning. The attack is obviously connected to the building that exploded at the beginning of the episode.
