Sanctuary – Bank Job

“Bank Job” is episode three of season three of Sanctuary.

Magnus, Will and Kate are standing outside a bank in a small town and Kate is nervous – small towns make her nervous, because she is not a small town person. The three enter the bank and Magnus goes to speak to the teller (played by Gary Jones – ‘Chevron Guy’ or Walter Harriman from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis – another of Amanda Tapping‘s colleagues). Magnus asks to access her safe deposit box – using a false name and identification. She goes down into the vault, accompanied by another employee. The vault is unusually warm, due to problems with the aircon, and the employee leaves Magnus alone.

Whilst Magnus is downstairs, Kate is casing up the bank, reckoning it would be easy to rob. In the vault, Magnus starts breaking into another safe deposit box, contacting Henry, who is in an RV outfitted as a mobile lab and command centre, asking if he’s ready – she is looking for the egg of a rare, extremely dangerous Abnormal called a Feropitus. The egg of the Feropitus looks like a work of art, which is why it is in a bank safe deposit box. The box that Magnus opens has only an eggshell and a hole in the back, as well as other holes showing the Feropitus has escaped. Magnus tells the other two that the Feropitus has found a host and they need to quarantine the bank. Lacking any other method of keeping people in the bank, Kate draws a weapon and shoots up the ceiling, saying that it’s a hold up.

The Sanctuary team have only missed the escape of the Feropitus by minutes at most – it has hatched two days early, presumably because of the warm temperatures of the vault. In order to slow the Feropitus’ gestation, the temperature of the bank is turned down. Once the Feropitus finishes gestating, it will explode out of the host, killing them in the process, a la Alien, then going on a feeding rampage.

They have around 45 minutes before the Feropitus becomes impossible to extract. The local police will arrive in around five minutes, as the silent alarm has been triggered, followed shortly afterwards by the feds, which is not enough time to find and remove the Feropitus as they lack the right equipment. Kate deals with speaking to law enforcement, this being in her skillset. Meanwhile, they need to improvise some equipment for finding the host of the Feropitus, with a limited amount of time before the police storm the bank, the Feropitus gestates or the police discover Henry, cutting their link with him and the ability to process data. There’s something else in the mix as well and, given that the Sanctuary team don’t actually want to rob the bank or hurt anyone, they are not exactly the most convincing bank robbers. Will especially – enough so that one of the hostages takes a shine to him, despite Kate’s attempt to disillusion her.
