Quantum Leap – Double Identity – November 8, 1965

“Double Identity – November 8, 1965” is episode six of season one of Quantum Leap.

At the end of the previous episode, “How the Tess Was Won – August 5, 1956”, Sam arrived to find himself partially dressed and a woman thanking him. She leaves and he gets fully dressed. He’s wearing a tux and there’s a wedding outside. The woman he was with is called Theresa and she’s chatting to various people. Including judging a game, telling a man called Gino that it’s Tony’s point but no-one is saying it because they’re afraid of Gino.

Theresa goes with Gino, who says that he thought she turned up at his daughter’s wedding because she wanted to be friends. Then just to embarrass him. Gino, the godfather, wants her to meet him at their old place. Then decides she has somebody. Theresa tells him that everyone in Brooklyn knows Gino will hit any guy over 14 who says hello to her. Gino says they’re not through until he says so.

Sam has come outside and is being spoken to in Italian. He doesn’t speak Italian. Someone called Segundo comes over; he seems to be Frankie’s – Sam – brother and says that Primo wants him to sing. Primo is the groom and his bride, Angela, has a song choice. Al arrives as Sam is about to try. Al knows the words. Sam’s first go through isn’t great, but he improves. Gino is telling Frankie’s father, Tony, and another that Theresa gave him the slip. If she’s meeting someone, he doesn’t want them dead meat. He wants them singing soprano.

Al returns to where he was at the beginning with Al. Al is hot. The imaging chamber doesn’t currently have aircon because Ziggy has turned off all non-vital electrical systems. Sam asks who he is. A Mafia hitman. And who the girl was. They don’t know. Or why he’s there. Ziggy has classed in-depth research as non-vital. Ziggy is almost sure they can get Sam to leap back, as long as he follows Ziggy’s instructions exactly. Until Ziggy has these instructions, do whatever Frankie would do. And that gun is Frankie’s.

Sam is in Brooklyn with Primo and Segundo. He asks about Primo, given he’s only just got married. Doesn’t he love Angela? Primo likes her. Sam asks if Primo only likes her, why did he get married. Because Sam – Frankie – said it would be a good thing to do. They pass the salon where Theresa is working and Sam decides he could use a haircut and goes in. To a lot of looks; unisex salons are things of the future. He asks Theresa for a trim.

Tony, the father of all three of them, arrives outside. Theresa says if Gino finds out, he will be unhappy. She says she got the hots for Frankie after seeing him kill a couple of people. Outside, the other three are gesturing as Gino’s car rolls up. Gino looks in and offers Tony his condolences for the loss of his eldest son. Tony claims he sent Frankie inside. Women talk in beauty salons. Gino doesn’t believe this, but Tony says that if Frankie was really bopping Theresa, would he be sat in a window with her? He swears on the life of his firstborn grandchildren. At which point everyone finds out that Angela and Primo are expecting a child. Gino will give Frankie a chance, by going inside to see if he says the same thing. He asks in Italian. Fortunately, Al turns up.

Sam is stuck in the body of a Mafia hitman and the godfather is not safe to be around. Ziggy has instructions for him to follow that could get him home. But they aren’t easy instructions. And Sam has no idea what he’s supposed to be doing.
