“Pilot” is episode one of season one of Powers.
The episode opens in Los Angeles in the Powers Division of Metro PD. A criminal with powers, Iron Impact, given an insufficient dosage of a drug designed to neutralise them and breaks free, killing one detective in the process. The detective who stopped him, Christian Walker, formerly had powers, and was known as Diamond, but has since lost them. The reason why seems to be connected to a villain who is currently locked up, ‘Big Bad’ Wolfe. Deena Pilgrim, a new recruit, is assigned to be Walker’s new partner. Powers Division is apparently underfunded, and underloved, and goes up against some very dangerous powered individuals. The police do not have it easy trying to go up against people with powers without any of their own.
The first case is the death of a very well known Power called Olympia, a friend of Walker’s. There’s a girl on the scene, a Powers wannabe – apparently a brief taste of being powered can come from an intimate act, and some of those who lack them are desperate to get them. There’s a new drug, called Sway, that seems to be connected to the death, and that’s connected to a Power who is supposed to be dead, Johnny Royalle.
Walker, back in the early days when he was Diamond, had connections to both Johnny Royalle and Wolfe, being friends with the former and a student of the latter. They were apparently different then, not the villains they later became.
This is not a standalone episode, but rather part of an ongoing story.
