“Final Judgement” is episode seventeen of season two of Mutant X.
Adam is talking to someone by video who wants to meet with him as there’s something going on. He leaves and Shalimar sees and follows him. They’re supposed to watch each other’s’ backs. Adam says he doesn’t need help. He’ also meeting someone who said he was in danger. Shalimar points out that leaving on your own in such a situation is not a great idea. According to Adam, his contact lives in a world Adam only gets glimpses of. He sees the big picture, knows the names of the people who run the show. The rest of the world doesn’t know he exists and his life depends on keeping it that way. If Adam’s contact sees Shalimar, he won’t meet. Shalimar is leaving when a van pulls up. People grab Adam and shoot at his contact, who drives off. As does the van. So much for Adam being fine. Shalimar contacts the others.
At Sanctuary, Jesse says the satellite images from the time Adam was taken have been tampered with. Emma wonders if the contact was the one who set Adam up. Shalimar doesn’t think so, given he was wounded. Jesse says they may be able to identify him from a DNA sample. Shalimar has some of the blood. She is worried because Adam was scared. Jesse says the kidnappers had guns but didn’t shoot him.
Adam is brought before a man who says they are the Tribunal, the last outpost of justice that punishes criminals who believe they are untouchable. Adam replies he’s a scientist, not a criminal. That will be proven or disproven. The Tribunal is about uncovering the truth and punishing the guilty. Adam should take them seriously; his life may depend on it.
Brennan is saying that working out why someone is grabbed on the streets is easy. With Adam, it’s more difficult. They need to identify Adam’s contact. Jesse has a DNA sample, but there’s a good chance the man isn’t in any of the databases.
Adam is in a cell when a woman, Janet Nicholls, comes to see him. She’s been assigned to represent him. He can’t call his own lawyer, or his friends; the Tribunal operates outside the traditional justice system. Adam has been accused of manipulating the DNA of over 1,000 human being in an attempt to create a master race to shift the balance of power into his own hands. He’s inflicted pain and suffering on his victims and his mutants have wreaked havoc on society. The case wouldn’t have come this far unless it was fully researched. Adam thinks the case is already decided and his defender isn’t interested in defending him.
Adam tells the Tribunal he doesn’t accept their validity. He’s told their sentences are just as binding and their judgement is just as final. The man prosecuting the case, Warren, is going to present evidence using Adam’s own memories to reconstruct the truth on various times and dates. The first is Ashley from “Lit Fuse”.
At Sanctuary, Jesse is getting nowhere with the DNA. Brennan suggests checking the Genomex data; that’s apparently heavily encrypted.
Adam is being accused of creating a seemingly endless stream of deadly monstrosities. Adam retorts that he was fixing the genetic flaws killing children. Warren then brings up Michael Ward from “Whose Woods these Are”. Adam says he had nothing to do with Ward. Warren says Adam’s technology created him and Adam’s mutants destroyed him when he risked becoming known to the public. The next is Lorna Templeton from “Deadly Desire” and it’s becoming clear by now that this is a clip show.
More clips from more encounters are shown, each carefully picked in such a way to make Adam look bad and distort the truth. Adam is sure someone is setting him up and attempts to get Janet to help him by looking into Genomex. Someone who clearly knows a lot about Adam and his activities has set him up. Meanwhile, the others are trying to track down Adam’s mysterious contact. If they can’t find him, it seems highly likely Adam will be executed by the Star Chamber whose hands he has fallen into.
