Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – The Singularity

“The Singularity” is episode eighteen of season three of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In the previous episode, “The Team”, it turned out that Daisy was the Inhuman who had been infected by Hive. Which was a surprise, probably a deliberate one, as the indications were all pointing to the others. She had killed Gideon Malick – that was his death that he foresaw in “Spacetime” – which means that he won’t be helping S.H.I.E.L.D. against Hive any more, in revenge for the death of his daughter, Stephanie, at Hive’s hands in “Paradise Lost”, and Daisy was busy using her powers to shake the base apart at the end of the episode, and had stolen the Kree artefact taken from James in “Paradise Lost” and the terrigen.

Daisy left the base, leaving it damaged but not destroyed, which she could have done. S.H.I.E.L.D. is fortifying the base and the vital data has been transferred to Zephyr One. The hangar doors have been damaged to prevent anyone following Daisy, but they are partially open. Coulson is going, despite having suffered a broken leg, and May flies the Zephyr through the gap.

According to Fitz and Simmons, what Hive infects the Inhumans with is essentially a drug, making them addicted to him – and immune to ICERs. They, and Mack, are going to looks for a scientist, Holden Radcliffe, who worked at the agro-chemical factory that HYDRA destroyed in “Paradise Lost”. The scientist wasn’t killed with everyone else, because he has already been relieved for Transhuman experiments (the Transhumanists are seeking to advance humanity by tinkering with it). Fitz and Simmons believe he may be able to cure Daisy, and the other infected Inhumans. Radcliffe is believed to be in Bucharest, Romania, and Fitz and Simmons are going to try to meet him, posing as scientists bearing optical technology similar to what is used in Deathlok. They are also dealing with the fact that their relationship is, finally, advancing.

May and Coulson are going after Alisha, the Inhuman who has doubles, believing that Hive will be going after her. Lincoln wants to come but, given Hive’s ability to control Inhumans, Coulson says he can only do so if he wears an explosive vest. Hive is also going after James as well, because the Kree artefact that Daisy stole that James had stolen himself has a companion piece. Which is missing. Daisy, and the other Inhumans, seem to believe that they are acting the way they want to, not at Hive’s directing. Hive itself wants to remake the planet. General Talbot is also up to something, but Coulson is more concerned about Daisy at the moment.
