Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Collision Course: Part 2

“Collision Course: Part 2” is episode nine of season six of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

At the end of the previous episode, “Collision Course: Part 1”, Sarge had set the truck – which apparently was designed as a bomb delivery system – on a collision course with the black tower the Shrike were building. Deke, May, Daisy and Snowflake were all left on the truck with the bomb and Izel was coming into land with Fitz and Simmons on the ship. The bomb would apparently make a crater 200 miles wide.

Mack is on the Zephyr and there are six minutes until impact. Local law enforcement can’t slow down the truck and the Zephyr is too big to get close – it might blow it over. So, Yo-Yo is going to leave in the Quinjet. Mack doesn’t think Sarge is the type to sacrifice himself and Davis agrees. Mack knows they are missing something, but not what. The ‘what’ is that Sarge has already left the truck using the portal device and is on the Zephyr. He’s freeing Jaco and Pax and is planning to take over the Zephyr. Pax states that there is a glaring flaw in the plan; they need some way of stopping the fast lady. Jaco explains that the girl with mechanical arms can move at an abnormally high velocity. Which is an abnormally high pain. Sarge has something to stop Yo-Yo; a field generator of some type by the sounds of it. He also states that Snow wasn’t able to make it out in time. But they will get a new spaceship in her memory. Jaco thinks Snow would like that.

On the incoming ship, Fitz is not having much luck fixing the comms. Then the rest of the crew arrive – who have all been infected with Shrike. Fitz observes their behaviour and says that it isn’t normal. Which he admits is stating the obvious. They want to determine what has caused the crew to behave oddly when Izel arrives. Simmons believes they have found the cause. Izel tells Fitz and Simmons that they will not end up like the rest of the crew; they are too valuable. It is rare for her to find intelligent beings like them.

On the truck, Deke is trying to defuse the bomb, but he needs more time. He isn’t going to get it. May tells them it’s three minutes until collision and asks how it’s going. Daisy replies that they have three minutes to live. They ask Snow what she knows about the bomb. Not much. The tiniest impact will split the smallest unit of matter and it will make a big noise. Daisy says Snow has just described an atom bomb. Snow has heard that it’s pretty. Not quite the right description. Everyone is reassuring Deke that he can do it.

Mack is getting ready to detach the Quinjet when Sarge and Jaco arrive in the cockpit. Sarge bets Mack didn’t see this coming. Mack knew Sarge had an exit strategy; he just didn’t know what it was. Sarge tells Mack he should be thankful, as the threat to his planet will be vaporised and they are flying away. Jaco uses one of the devices Sarge had to block entrance to the cockpit and Yo-Yo has discovered that Pax and Jaco have escaped.

In the truck, Deke can’t stop the bomb and Snow is finally freaking out. Butterflies are not helping her currently. Daisy reaches for the bomb just before the truck reaches the tower, which dissolves into a cloud of Shrikes. Inside, everyone has noticed the distinct lack of blowing-up; Daisy had used her powers to shield the bomb from impact. Of course, it’s still armed and dangerous. On the Zephyr, Sarge has noticed the distinct lack of an Earth shattering Kaboom. He is unhappy.

Sarge is asking why it didn’t go off and Jaco asks if Sarge set everything up correctly. This isn’t Sarge’s first warhead. On the ship, Izel has noticed that her tower has been destroyed and says they are in danger; Fitz and Simmons as well. Neither is aware of what is going on and say their friends can help. If they can get the comms up. Izel wonders if Earth is more hostile than she thought. Or perhaps he is already here. Sarge wants a course set for the spaceship, which is now climbing out of the atmosphere. Pax is about to set up his field device when it disappears from his hands. He was too late.

Mack suggests that they regroup with everyone on the ground. Including Snowflake. Jaco thinks this isn’t a bad idea. Sarge does not agree. Then Pax appears, chained, on the other side of the field. Sarge doesn’t want to drop it so Yo-Yo rams Pax into it. Jaco deactivates the field to see to Pax and Sarge shoots Pax and reactivates the field with Jaco on the other side. It looks as if Yo-Yo has managed to slip Mack a key to his cuffs though whilst the field was down.

Daisy and May open the truck’s door to look for hostiles. It initially looks clear and quiet. Then a cloud of Shrikes appears and it ceases to look peaceful. Fitz and Simmons finally get through to the Zephyr, and give Davis a distress code. Which he returns; no, he hasn’t made a mistake, he’s that as well. Sarge intervenes and speaks to Izel, who says he has finally remembered her name. Maybe she will help Sarge remember his own. Which is an interesting statement. Fitz and Simmons recognise Sarge’s voice, of course, which causes problems as Izel doesn’t know who Coulson is. Izel verbally spars with Sarge and Sarge definitely comes off second best.

So, Fitz and Simmons are stuck on a spaceship with a woman who is probably not exactly friendly and her crew of bird-zombies. The Zephyr is currently under Sarge’s control – although Mack does get to use Sarge’s phrase of ‘Toldja’ against him. May, Daisy, Deke and Snow are stuck in an armoured truck being attacked by Shrike – and the Shrike are proving to be stronger than the armour.
