Marvel’s Agent Carter – A Sin to Err

“A Sin to Err” is episode six of season one of Marvel’s Agent Carter.

This episode opens in Russia, 1944. A woman wearing a rather odd uniform and carrying a submachine gun is removing the hoods from a number of seated men. One of these is Dr. Ivchenko, who was brought out of Russia in the previous episode, “The Iron Ceiling”. A man in a Soviet uniform tells the men that they have all been selected for a great honour, to join Leviathan, but should anyone wish to decline, they should speak up. One does – stupidly – saying that he has a family. It’s not exactly a surprise when he is promptly killed by the woman on the officer’s orders. The officer did say that the man could be with his family – and they are all going to be killed now as well.

Ivchenko is actually telling this in Dooley’s office at the SSR to Dooley, Peggy and Thompson. Ivchenko says that Stalin wished to make Russia the leading power in the world, so it needed better weapons than either its enemies or allies. Which is what Leviathan was for. Peggy interrupts with questions about the young girl they found at the facility, who she believed was being trained. Thompson is surprised that men wouldn’t be chosen, but Ivchenko tells him that woman are often overlooked. Even though the doctor says this isn’t his area of knowledge, Peggy keeps hectoring him with questions until finally Dooley takes her out of the office.

Peggy tells the chief that she believes there is an agent operating in the U.S., and that this agent is the one who killed Krzeminski in “Time and Tide”. The bullet that shot Krzeminski came from a Russian gun, and a small one more suited to a woman’s grip. Peggy also says that Stark is notorious for his pursuit of women, and that this could be how his vault got broken into. Dooley tells her that there are bigger matters, and she agrees. Eventually Dooley tells Peggy to run with her hunch. Which causes her to stop speaking, something Dooley finds a bit amusing.

Angie has got a new key for Peggy, as she lost her previous one. Angie is also thinking of giving up on her acting career, as she’s has a number of failed auditions. Peggy doesn’t want Angie to do this, but she’s meeting Jarvis and hasn’t the time to talk further currently.

Jarvis tells Peggy that Dooley visited him, and inquired about the Battle of Finow; Jarvis believes the winds may be shifting at the SSR. Jarvis says that Stark did go to Finow and was distressed when he returned and began construction on his vault.

Peggy tells Jarvis her theory regarding a woman getting details on Stark’s vault, as women are Stark’s major weakness. That and, according to Jarvis, raspberry truffles. Peggy wants a list of all the women Stark has entertained over the past year; Jarvis doesn’t think there’s enough ink for such a list. So Peggy shortens it to six months, which Jarvis believes is doable. They will start with the western hemisphere.

Dottie, who is one of the girls trained by Leviathan – not that Peggy knows this yet, or that Dottie broke into her room and stole some secret agent lipstick – is across from the SSR’s building. When Dottie enters a dentist’s office, she makes out that she has come about the job. The dentist seems a bit of a creep and has totally picked the wrong woman to be creepy with. Dooley’s window can be seen from the dentist’s, but what happens is a bit of a surprise.

It seems that Howard has a special bracelet made for all the women he dallies with, and the jeweller who makes the bracelet has a list of all of them. Jarvis comments that the list is shorter than he though; Peggy wonders how Howard can possibly meet so many women. Apparently the Academy Awards are a busy time. Removing all the well known people with long established careers – although Jarvis considers Ginger Rogers a suspect – Peggy wants to go and find them all to check their wrists for scars from being chained to a bed (something Dottie is still voluntarily doing). Jarvis, who was typically the one to break up with the women on Star’s behalf, is not looking forward to confronting them. Justifiably, as it happens.

Sousa, who saw that Peggy had marks on her back that matched those of the mystery woman he is looking for, goes and sees the man that Peggy beat up whilst she was looking for Leet Brannis in “Bridge and Tunnel”. And shows him a photo of Peggy. Sousa has now confirmed that Peggy is this woman, which is going to cause complications for her.
