“Course Deviation” is episode ten of season two of Manifest.
Back on Flight 828, Adrian is talking to another passenger about faith. It seems he has none, thanks to his father.
In the previous episode, “Airplane Bottles”, Jared arrested Michaela when he realised her union rep was under orders from Simon to kill her. She’s talking to the rep about Adrian when Zeke arrives. She tells Zeke that Jared said he was saving her life, and she doesn’t know why she still trusts Jared. Then Jared himself arrives and says she’s getting out.
Grace and Ben are talking; Ben tells her that Michaela’s attorney has got her released. Ben isn’t happy with Adrian. Then Grace has a calling, with a bridge over a river and a man calling for help.
Cal and Olive are talking about how to explain to the baby about everything, and decide to make her a guidebook.
Jared tells Michaela her lawyer is here, and indicated his hand, slipping her a piece of paper. The rep tells Jared he was going to take Michaela to a rough neighbourhood and lose her. Jared says that won’t work; Michaela is leaving with her lawyer.
Ben and Grace identify the bridge and head there. Michaela sends them a message that she’s out. Someone is watching and tuns off. It turns out to be Adrian; he got a calling too. Grace says they can’t turn him in; why would a calling bring them all the way out here only to bring him back?
Michaela arrives at a park bench. The message said ‘Our Place’ and it’s where Jared proposed to her in front of her family. Jared himself then arrives.
Olive and Cal are working on the guide book. They find the first thing Cal drew, which he’s never figured out. It creeps him out. There’s a shadowy figure in the background, and Cal sees it growing.
Jared tells Michaela he came back to the bench a lot. But the last time, it didn’t help, and he wound up arriving in an Xer bar. Michaela says he joined because of her. Yes. Because the best way to destroy a hate group is from the inside. He needed her to believe so that they did. Michaela says she bugged the bar. He knows.
Adrian, Ben and Grace are talking. Adrian thinks a calling caused the fire, because he told Isiah and Isiah made it all come true. He thinks the callings may cause more harm than good. Then Grace’s water breaks. Too early. At the hospital, they’re told that there’s internal bleeding. They can’t do a premature delivery; it needs an operation. And there’s only a handful of specialists who can do it. The local one is not responding and the next is five hours away. They can only hope the baby holds out that long.
At the precinct, the captain yells at Jared and Michaela and tells them to get into her office. Then welcomes Michaela to the team.
At the bridge, Adrian hears shouting and sees a man in trouble in the river. He swims out.
Michaela is being told that Simon White is the head of the Xers. Jared says that, so far, White hasn’t said enough to incriminate himself in court. Not even with the plan to kill Michaela.
Grace is having problems with the baby, and it looks like the choice is either her or the baby, or a risky operation carried out by someone inexperienced that risks both.
