“The Way Home” is episode six of season one of La Brea.
Eve is burying the message that Gavin read in the previous episode, “The Fort”. She remembers heading to LA with the kids 3 months ago in the present. Gavin wanted her to trust him. She didn’t.
Riley finds Scott looking at the closing rift. He tells her that he’s calculated that they have 18 hours before it closes.
Ty is telling Sam and Marybeth that Lily was kidnapped and Veronica ran off. He wants to go look for her. Sam says that it’s too dangerous.
Josh finds Eve and talks to her about the light. She explains the letter and how Gavin can see things happening there. Josh still doesn’t believe his father will come through for them.
Levi is trying to raise anyone on the alkie talkie and finally does. The person on the other end is Diana, Nathan’s fiancée. The connection is bad and Levi explains that the owner of the walkie talkie didn’t make it. Levi explains his plane is damaged. Diana sounds to be in Santa Monica and she may be able to fix it. Then the connection goes down. The jeep has finally been started and Levi and Eve are going to Santa Monica.
They find a camp made from a plane and then Diana appears hold on a gun on them. Levi explains about her friend and that he knows about her team, showing her a photo, saying Nathan gave it to him. Diana explains that when their portal closed, they headed to LA and a storm happened and they crashed on the beach. They split up to try and find another way home. She and her friend settled there. She queries Levi on what’s up with his plane. And she thinks she can fix it.
In the present at the dig site Markham shows up and tells them they aren’t going to save the others. He can’t risk it. Then a worker tells Aldridge there’s something she needs to see. Wreckage has just appeared in the clearing there they’d already excavated. It’s Levi’s plane and GPR shows bodies next to it. Levi tried to fly out and it crashed. Gavin wants to try the other plane but Markham can’t risk people dying in the quake.
Ty is speaking to Lily; it seems Veronica was kidnapped too. The others return in the jeep; Diana says once their portal started to close, they had less than 24 hours. Diana and Levi head back to the plane to fix it.
They decide to draw names to see who leaves on which flight.
Gavin, Aldridge and Izzy are being held and Izzy wants to know how Aldridge found the clearing. She won’t say, then Nathan shows up. Nathan had to give them up in order to convince Markham she was on his aside., And she sent him to the wrong place to get the plane. Gavin wants to get a message to the past.
Drawing names causes arguments but everyone accepts it eventually. Lucas wants Scott to find his stash. Diana is anxious about returning because of Nathan; she’s afraid she’s moved on. Things in both the past and present are getting messy and complicated and Aldridge is keeping secrets.
