“The Hunt” is episode three of season one of La Brea.
Eve wakes and checks on Josh, then heads to speak to Riley about Sam. Riley is not happy Eve left her father behind in the previous episode, “Day Two”. Eve offers to bring food.
People are queuing for food and Baker is parcelling it out. Marybeth tells Eve that Baker is rationing the food. Then there’s a growl and a very bug animal comes out of the forest. Everyone runs away and the creature eats all their food before leaving.
At El Segundo, Gavin speaks to Sophia. Her team is creating a map of LA 10,000 years ago. She wants him to tell them everything he knows so they can figure out how to find the survivors. They will fly there and take as many trips as needed. There are a number of possible pilots. Gavin asks to be one. Sophia says he’s out of the question. In which case, Gavin recommends Levi Delgardo. Gavin hasn’t spoken to him in a while, but there’s no-one he trusts more and Gavin guarantees he’s on the list. He was Gavin’s closest friend. And he is on the list.
In the past, they have no food. Scott says the animal was a giant ground sloth. And they’re extinct. Scott thinks they are about 10,000 years ago. Eve thinks he’s right and explains why. Lucas, Marybeth’s son, disagrees. He’s going to look for someone who knows where they are. Eve says they will starve to death and Ty agrees they need food. Eve says they need to hunt.
Levi is arriving and remembers seeing Gavin and Izzy 14 months ago. He has been transferred. He speaks to Gavin and tells him Eve is worried. If Gavin doesn’t pull it together, he will lose his family. Gavin knows that. What he sees has already taken everything from him. In the present, Levi speaks to Gavin. Yes, the place Gavin is seeing is real.
Eve is setting rabbit snares and she explains to Ty how she grew up in a farm in Montana. This sort of thing was a way of life. And her dad wanted a boy. Eve wants Ty to talk about himself. He does not.
Marybeth finds Lucas; she doesn’t think he should be alone as it’s dangerous. He has discovered the pit trap that was found the previous day has been reset. He plans to find whoever did it and get answers.
Riley tells Sam a sloth ate their food. He says he cannot feel his legs. Liquid has built up in his spine and it needs draining. And she’s the only one capable of doing it. She is not happy, but if it isn’t done in the next few hours, he may never walk again.
Ty and Eve’s hunting runs into problems with the local wildlife. Riley has to do an emergency procedure on her father, and gets help from Josh and Scott. Levi’s flight is being prepped and there are clearly issues between him and Gavin.
