“Mercy” is seven eight of season two of Krypton.
The episode seems to start in the past, and Seg and Lyta are talking about romance which morphs into a conversation about their relationship. Seg suggests they run away together. Lyta says her mother will hunt them down and kill them both. Seg will defend Lyta to his dying breath. Which, he admits, will be almost immediate against her mother. They leave in a skimmer and head to Kryptonopolis. In a rather nice place, Seg shows Lyta her mother’s Binding bracelet. He spoke to Jayna. Seg has also got his rank back. Okay, this is not the past.
In the previous episode, “Zods and Monsters”, Brainiac took Cor-Vex – now named Jor-El – as the best Krypton had that needed preserving was the blood of the Els. Seg is scanning for Brainiac’s ship but Nyssa tells him to stop. He’s scanned everything that can be scanned. Their son is gone, for now. Seg is sorry; he promised to do everything in his power to keep their son safe. Nyssa isn’t giving up. She recalls that Val saw Brainiac’s futures in the Phantom Zone. They need to speak to him. Seg says that Wegthor is dark; no comms. Nyssa says they need to head there, then. Then they hear a noise; Jayna and Dev.
Lis-Ser is working on Doomsday but not getting anywhere. Zod tells her to walk with him. He wonders what’s weighing on her mind. Brainiac’s ship. Why did it disappear? What does it mean for Kandor? Zod doesn’t know. But there’s nothing to fear. They will be ready for Brainiac if he returns, because they will have Doomsday.
Lis-Ser is having problems making Doomsday’s mind receptive to accept Zod’s voice imprint. Zod will sure she will solve the problem. She says that Doomsday is immune to every psychoactive drug known to Krypton. Zod asks what about one not known to Krypton, describing something that’s clearly not theoretical. He takes her somewhere; he found a Black Mercy in Val’s Fortress. It produces a drug that creates an alternate reality ion the mind of its host. And its host is Lyta. The Lyta who died on Wegthor was a clone.
Jayna and Dev are told about Jor. Dev explains they have been monitoring the Sagitari. Zod has ordered his new fleet to launch to put an end to the rebellion on Wegthor once and for all. Seg realises that none of those on Wegthor know the fleet is coming. And if they can’t warn about the launch, they need to stop it. Dev says the only way to do that is to destroy the fleet.
They need top break into Fort Rozz. Again. Seg suggests it gets easier with practice. No; on the eve of a launch, security will be increased. The only way in is to think of something Zod hasn’t. Seg knows a way. Before they all became… friends, he and Kem used to ‘liberate’ supplies from the Guilds and redistribute them to the Rankless. Through tunnels that ran very close. Right beneath where Zod has built his shipyard. Inside, though, they run into problems and Seg, then Nyssa, surrender so that the other two can get away.
Lis-Ser is extracting the toxin from the Black Mercy, but is troubled by the plant’s negative reaction to the extraction. It could collapse Lyta’s fantasy. How long has she been like this? Months. Lyta had problems with the loss of Jayna and Seg. Zod tells Lis-Ser to go ahead. Lis-Ser was right to be concerned. Problems start occurring in Lyta’s fantasy world. The prediction of Dru-Zod’s future is perhaps a little accurate, which troubles her but no-one else. Then reality starts creeping in, as elements of what really happened creep in. There are going to be some rather surprised people when they discover that Lyta is still alive.
