“Danger Close” is episode four of season two of Krypton.
Seg is remembering the first time he met Lyta. Buying from a merchant in the Rankless zone. And Brainiac comments about this being how he met Lyta, and Seg jolts awake.
In the previous episode, “Will to Power”, Adam and Seg had returned to Krypton. Seg tells Adam that they can make it to Kandor in a few hours. Adam thinks they should take it slow. They have no respirators and Seg just about died a few hours ago. Seg said he did die; Adam killed him. Yes, but he’s not dead now and that’s in the past. They’re going up against a dictator so evil that people let him wear a cape. Adam doesn’t want Seg to die again. Seg says that, despite everything, Zod is still his son.
In Kandor, Seg says everything has changed. This was his sector. It’s gone. And Adam points out the giant image of General Zod. Seg wants to go this bit alone; Adam needs to tell Val Seg is still alive. Lyta is a respected member of House Zod, and if Seg can get her to stand with the rebels, it could turn some of Zod’s followers against him. Adam admits that could work.
Lyta is getting ready to leave for Wegthor when Seg arrives. She puts the leaving on hold. After getting reacquainted, they talk. Seg notices Lyta bleeding from the nose. She thinks it’s stress. Seg asks about Jayna; no-one has seen her. Seg tells Lyta he had a vision of the future in the Phantom Zone. Zod is not what she thinks. Adam had a vision of the future where Zod conquered the galaxy. They can save Zod from his obsession.
Lyta takes Seg to see his son, Cor. When asked about Nyssa, Lyta says she’s working for them now, fighting the rebels. Seg should stay here and when Lyta is back, no-one will keep them apart. They can be with their son. Not Cor; Zod. Who Lyta told Seg was there.
On Wegthor, Kem wakes in a field of dead Sagitari, almost out of oxygen. He refreshes his supply and is then surrounded by rebels.
Araame frees Kem from his bonds and asks if a dead Sagitari was a friend. No; Kem hated him. The dead man said conscripts lacked the loyalty of real Sagitari. Which was right, Kem admits. Araame says Kem outlasted 99% of the real Sagitari in his regiment; he must have been doing something right. Kem didn’t realise not dying was a skill. It’s just luck.
Val and Jax are speaking to the rebels; Jax says they owe Nyssa for the easy victory. Val says there’s a hole in the defences for a limited time. They used the last of their short-range oxygenators, but with the long-range ones from Zod’s convoy, they can make the trek to the base of the elevator. Take control of that and Zod is cut off. Then Adam arrives.
Adam speaks to Val privately; he’s worried he broke the universe. He got a glimpse of the future, but it was if time had stopped. What if everything Adam has done has caused a universe-ending problem? Val doubts Adam is responsible, if such is the case. Adam says they need to fix it. Val agrees, but the best way to help the universe is to stop Zod now.
Jayna is with Dev and he ends up explaining how he came to leave the Sagitari. And how Lyta has changed. Seg sees something that makes him think, and results in some questions being answered. Unfortunately, the rebels don’t know that Nyssa is truly working for General Zod, and Zod has a plan.
