“A Seat at the Table” is episode nine of season one of Harley Quinn.
In the previous episode, “L.O.D.R.S.V.P”, Harley became a member of the Legion of Doom. This episode opens with a cheesy introductory video by Lex Luthor welcoming new recruits into the Legion. At the end of the video, Psycho is thrown into a wall by Black Manta. Afterwards, King Shark says to Psycho that that’s him.
Lex Luthor enters and tells them to follow him. He introduces Harley to the rest of the Legion and Joker gets up to say a few words. No-one deserves this more than Harley and though he tried to kill her multiple times, now she’s killing it. Harley claims she’s through giving Joker second chances. That may not be true.
Harley heads to see Ivy to apologise; Ivy really doesn’t like the Legion of Doom. Harley says she would be dead multiple times without Ivy. Ivy does not disagree with that. But Harley will always be there for Ivy, to smash things she wants smashing. As it happens, there is something, but fighting to protect the environment isn’t evil. Which comes up a number of times. Ivy wants the Gotham factory of Planetwide Pavers destroying. Going by their ad, not a bad idea.
In the Legion’s headquarters, Harley is shown her office and a case full of baseball bats. The others have special offices too and are shown to them. Psycho is concerned they are going down. To where they keep the goons and henchman. Which is now them. Psycho says they have actual powers. Then Bane arrives; he wants some goons and he’s signed them up on a very important mission. Blowing up someone called Todd because he kept getting Bane’s name wrong.
Harley is at a meeting where they pitch evil ideas to use the Legion’s resources. Apparently modelled on Pixar. Which derails things for a bit; Bane would like a sequel to Up. The Joker’s pitch passes easily – until Harley picks it to pieces.
Afterwards, Bane is telling Harley that it’s good someone stood up to Joker. Joker hears and pulls out Bane’s pipes. However, Joker thanks Harley, saying she was right, the plan did need work. And how about a work drink? He can help her game the system.
The others are in Harley’s office. They are not happy about being in the goon pool with the common henchman, working for anyone who asks. Harley agrees; they only work together. She needs to work out how to game the system. That leads her to think of speaking to Joker. Well, that can’t possibly backfire.
Harley is letting down both her crew and Ivy, though she hasn’t realised it yet.
