First Wave – Tomorrow

“Tomorrow” is episode twenty-one of season two of First Wave.

Came wakes up, lying in a messy-looking alley. He calls out to a man he sees, but they run off. There’s a flyer up, about the Human Registry. Gua and human succeeding together. Cade finds a corpse, one with a number branded into his arm. He then enters a rundown building and follows electrical flashes somewhere. Somewhere where a human is being found guilty of crimes against the Gua. It’s not seen, but it certainly seems like an execution. Cade looks out through a hole in a wall and sees the Gua flag flying over the Capital in Washington.

Cade has no memory of invasion or battle, but assumes they lost. A man calls out to him; he has stuff to sell. The man recognises Cade. With the sound of a siren, he runs off as two police vehicles arrive, with black helmeted officers onboard. Cade is lacking a brand and is zapped, then one of them recognises Cade as well. Cade is asked what happened to his registration brand. He doesn’t have one. He’s told to go to the Human Registry and get one or the next control team might not be as understanding.

Cade sees Joshua come out of the Human Registry and follows him to another building. A woman comes out and joins Joshua, and they leave. Cade goes inside; the woman is a concubine, military section. There’s a security camera which he disables. The woman, Claire Wilson (Victoria Pratt; later Shalimar in Mutant X), returns home and she recognises Cade as well. He’s the most famous human in the world. He’s on the GuaNet 24 hours a day. Possession is mandatory. There are videos of Cade on the GuaNet, having him advocate for human registry and saying the Gua are here to help.

Claire has been reading Cade’s journals for years. They, too, are in favour of the Gua. Who are like caring parents, here to help. Cade says he didn’t write any of those lies. But they’ve been on the GuaNet since Year 1. Everyone believes Cade; it keeps them going. Cade states he didn’t write them, the Gua did. He has no memory of what happened since the invasion, but the Gua have created a fake of him. Claire is concerned, as this is treason. Perhaps Cade needs re-education. The Gua re their saviours and it’s against their principle to harm a human being. Cade disagrees, and says he can prove it. He takes Claire to the execution place, where a human is vapourised.

Claire calls Joshua to her place. And it is Joshua, even though Joshua’s mind was removed, to be kept in storage permanently, from his husk in “The Trial of Joshua Bridges”. Cade doesn’t know that, though. With Joshua there, Cade swipes his access card. This is used to gain access by Cade and Claire to the restricted sections of the GuaNet. Cade wants to find Eddie. Claire thinks his name is odd. Eddie is an odd person, Cade states. There’s no match for Eddie, so Cade has Claire search for Eddie’s real name, discovered in “All About Eddie”.

Eddie is living outside of town under that name. He isn’t happy to see Cade, believing him to be a traitor. Then that this is a test of Eddie’s loyalty. Cade convinces Eddie it isn’t a test and it isn’t Cade on those videos, and that he has no memory of the Second Wave.

With Eddie back on side, Cade starts working with him. However, not everything is as it seems; Joshua being Joshua, not Cain, is a clue.
