“Wasted Minute” is episode six of season three of Continuum.
In the previous episode, “30 Minutes to Air”, Liber8 had seized control of a television studio in order to get control of its satellite, a studio where Dillon himself was being interviewed regarding his daughter being arrested as a Liber8 sympathiser. Although Liber8 were up to something, and not what it seemed – they used one satellite to hack another so that they could steal something unknown from Fermitas – Dillon himself was up to something. His daughter had done what she did on his behalf, so that she would be able to infiltrate Liber8. Kiera’s relationship with this Carlos seems to have improved as well – it’s been rocky ever since Carlos discovered that ‘his’ Kiera was dead – but Kiera’s relationship with Alec Two deteriorated when the latter discovered she knew about Original Alec. Mind you, Alec Two is becoming increasingly distrustful of everyone.
Opening once again in the future in what appears to be some type of hospital in a war zone. The soldiers have all been affected by what appears to be a biochemical weapon, and they are dying. One of the soldiers is Kiera, and she is also suffering. She knows a person working there, and wants him to kill her. He says he can’t, and that there’s an antidote coming. Kiera pulls her gun on herself, but the antidote turns up in time.
Original Alec is trying to figure out who killed Kiera Two, by using the data from her CMR, but he’s not having much luck. He’s feeling a bit down and thinks that he and Emily need to leave, before she ends up dead again and before he turns into Future Alec.
At the Freelancers, Catherine exits the room that she showed Kiera – but not us – in the previous episode. She’s apparently not having much luck with whatever it is she’s trying to accomplish. It seems that there may be someone in the room – someone who knows something. Catherine also tells Kiera that she needs to do what she originally said – and kill one of the Alecs before the timeline is destroyed from there being two of them. Kiera is reluctant. Catherine says that Original Alec is the one who needs to die, because he caused the death of Kiera Two and Escher and running away will not bring the future to pass, and if Kiera can’t kill him; well, the inference is that she will have him killed. Original Alec is making a deal with Kellog so that he and Emily can disappear. Emily doesn’t trust Kellog, or want to make a deal with him.
Travis and Sonya are taking a tanker truck into a Sonmanto facility where they steal some chemicals, dangerous ones by the looks of it. The company representative says that nothing has been stolen, and the witnesses have been tampered with. Nothing the chemical plant makes is supposed to be dangerous. What looks to have been stolen is apparently waste. Kiera speaks to Alec Two, trying to repair their relationship, but it isn’t working – until he realises just how dangerous the waste substance can be when mixed with a couple of other substances. Quite possibly it’s whatever was affecting Kiera in the future. Kiera is concerned that Liber8 will attack the entire city and wants Alec Two to see if he can come up with an antidote. So Kiera needs Original Alec to help as well.
There’s a tankerful of potentially lethal chemicals missing, a limited amount of time to find them and Original Alec and Alec Two’s confrontation is coming to a head.
There’s a bit of a cliff-hanger ending for once as Kiera finally discovers who killed Kiera Two.
