“Revolutions Per Minute” is episode ten of season three of Continuum.
In the previous episode, “Minute of Silence”, Kiera had found a man who also would appear to be from the future, although he has lost much of his memory. He also has an item of technology that showed a holograph of his family, which had an effect on Kiera. Who is he, and how did he end up in the past with future technology? Is he connected to the Freelancers in some way? Although the Freelancers are not normally sent through time.
Carlos had shown Alec Two the body of Kiera Two, which upset the latter, especially as Original Kiera hadn’t told him about the murder. Alec Two was also struggling with the creation of the Halo unit, and Jason said it could be finished with technology that would be commonplace – in about a decade. So Alec Two, at the end of the episode, went to where Kiera Two’s body was being stored and used some power tools to extract something – presumably her CMR unit so that he could use it to continue developing Halo. Kellog had also leveraged his lawsuit against Alec Two and Piron into a hefty payment for Sadtech’s property and membership of the Piron board.
This episode opens in the past/present for once. John Doe, who Kiera is letting sleep at hers, wakes up after having a nightmare. He seems to have remembered some of his past. More clues are found in the episode, which look like they may link to the events of “Minute to Win It” – in which some really advanced unknown technology was discovered. This also causes problems with the Freelancers. And something else crops up.
Alec Two is working on Halo and is successfully manufacturing – cloning – new chips. Chips that won’t be invented normally for over 15 years in the future. Presumably they are from Kiera Two. Carlos meanwhile goes to where her body is stored, only to find that it is now missing. There are only really two suspects who might have taken the body – and Alec Two is top of the list. He isn’t happy and Alec Two is avoiding him. Jason, who has had problems for some time, wants to be the first to test the new, improved Halo – and it helps him. Alec Two has also come to the notice of some rather powerful men.
Dillon is remembering Betty’s job interview. He’s definitely upset by her death, even though they have now caught her killer. Dillon tells Kiera that he’s having trouble sleeping, that he thinks they aren’t doing everything they could to stop Liber8. Then he reveals that, in “30 Minutes to Air”, he set her daughter up as Liber8 bait. He’s concerned that he can’t contact his daughter, Catherine, and wants Kiera to help get her out. Dillon would seem to be concerned that she might end up like Betty otherwise.
Kiera also wants to anticipate Liber8’s next move. They’ve been going after the corporations – those that exist in the past present – who will form the Corporate Congress in the future. There is another company that, whilst currently a small pharmaceutical, is going to be a monopoly in the future, and they are definitely a viable target for Liber8. Naturally, the currently small company doesn’t see how they could possibly be a target when there are much bigger companies around. Liber8 do have someone on the inside already – Dillon’s daughter. So Kiera has to tell Carlos about her. Kellog is also up to something related to the company.
Sonya is concerned because, no matter what she does to prevent the future happening, things still seem to be working out the same old way (although there are hints that this is not quite true). Which she tells Julian, who has been working on something. Julian also gets an unusual offer.
