Batwoman – Rebirth

“Rebirth” is episode sixteen of season two of Batwoman.

A man is trying to flee with a briefcase, getting into his car before it’s impaled with a sword. He gets out and the attacker stabs him and takes the case. Then Ryan drops in. The woman with two swords gets away and the man is still alive. Ryan tries contacting Luke in the Batcave for medical assistance, but he’s not there.

When she returns, Luke is sitting on the balcony wall outside the office. Ryan called 911 instead. Luke needs some time alone.

A news story is saying that Tavaroff was released free on bail, and how Jacob Kane, in the previous episode, “Armed and Dangerous”, spoke up about the corruption in the Crows and dissolved the organisation. Roman Sionis is complaining about this to Safiyah. Who suggests he may have done enough. She’d also like to borrow Circe. Roman says that Circe is finally ready to make her grand return. His PR team covered up the incident than landed her in Arkham, and her death. She’s going to have been at a Malibu rehab retreat. And has an ad for a new product range, Rebirth. Safiyah knows Enigma gave Kate Circe’s memories. But who gave her Circe’s face? Roman says Alice did. Safiyah calls him a fool for allowing them to be together, because Alice is Beth Kane. And Alice and her father are currently abducting Circe/Kate.

Mary is in the Batcave and Ryan is entering a government safehouse. The stabbed man worked with judges putting people into witness relocation, and all the details were on the computer in his briefcase. He called this place many times but no-one answered. Because the man there, who looks to have his eyes gouged out in the past, is dead, a sword in him. As is the stabber. Which turns out to be Tatiana, who gets away.

At the former Crows building, Kate’s identity has been confirmed. Kane asks how they can get Kate’s memories back. Alice says there was a keyword, but the person who knew that is dead. Now, they have to try to jog her memory piece by piece with personal effects. Which Ocean brings. He’s being very polite to Alice’s father. Alice explains Enigma and what Enigma did to Beth.

Mary has identified the dead man from the safehouse. He was being protected by the Crows after 5 years ago someone gouged out his eyes with a spoon. Yes, that was the man Circe Sionis attacked. Ryan asks if Alice didn’t mention a Circe. They want to check on Luke, and need to find him.

He’s entering a bar with fake GCPD ID. Where Tavaroff is. Both are trying to provoke each other; Luke basically challenges Tavaroff to Hold ‘Em. And John Diggle says he hopes Luke has a plan.

Kate is asking why, even if she was Kate, she’d want to come back to a father that abandoned both daughters and a literal evil twin. Alice has a go, which jogs a memory. Though it’s a memory of Kate being in Beth’s place when Bet was held by Cartwright.

Ryan has found Luke, who explains that he didn’t actually want to live when they saved him.

Kane calls Mary and tells her that they’ve found Kate. They need more time, and Black Mask is Roman Sionis, and brainwashed Kate. Mary warns him that Circe is connected to Safiyah. Just as False Faces take down Kane. Alice frees Kate but is herself captured.

Safiyah wants revenge on Alice for Alice torching her island in “Survived Much Worse”, but Alice is also needed to try and restore Kate’s memories, for Kate’s having a practically literal identity crisis currently.
