“Fragged” is episode three of season two of the new Battlestar Galactica.
Dr Cottle arrives on Galactica to operate on Commander Adama; Billy tries to get help for the president on the way. Cottle has to start operating immediately and tells Tigh he’s not psychic and doesn’t know if Adama will survive. and get out of his way. Tigh leaves and takes a drink. Billy is behind him and asks how the commander is. And he needs medication for the president. Colonel Tigh says she’s not the president any more. And why isn’t Billy in the brig? Because no-one put him in there.
In CIC, Tigh asks why Apollo isn’t in the brig. Because he’s on duty, planning SAR. Tigh asks who for; did they lose a plane and no-one tell him? He’s reminded about the Raptor crew on Kobol. Oh, right, them. Tigh asked Apollo to command the air group when he’s on duty, and he’s on duty. Is Apollo in command or not? Looks like he is. Tigh questions the Cylon Base Ship and whether Boomer really destroyed it. Yes; Racetrack confirmed it and Apollo checked the gun camera footage. Gaeta is hovering; the press want to know how much longer they will be held. Dualla says that a shuttle from the Zephyr is asking to land; the Quorum of Twelve is onboard. Tigh wants them put in the wardroom.
President Roslin jolts awake with a scream. Corporal Venner and Billy are concerned. She’s finding it hard to think. Tigh has a go at Apollo on the flight deck, then asks Dualla if the Quorum is there. And if she wants to see them instead of Tigh. She does not. Tom Zarek claims that Adama wants a military dictatorship. Tigh says he does not. He believes in freedom, democracy and all that good stuff. The Quorum wants immediate access to President Roslin. Tigh will take that under advisement.
On Kobol, crash is holding a halting service for the two that died in the previous episode, “Valley of Darkness”. Number Six tells Gaius that nothing awaits them, only oblivion, because they died on Kobol. They start to leave and Chief Tyrol is calling to Crash, who may feel responsible. And probably should. They spot a large Cylon ship, one being dismantled by Centurions. The Centurions are building a missile battery. The chief knows why the Cylons aren’t chasing them; they’re going to fire a missile barrage that will wipe out everything in the valley.
Whilst they’re watching the missiles, Gaius tells Number Six that it’s pointless. They kill the Cylons, the Cylons kill them. They kill more Cylons; the Cylons kill more of them. Number Six tells him that murder is man’s one true artform. The Cylons are men’s children and they were taught well. God still wants to offer man salvation, and their child will bring that. Gaius needs to accept the role of father and guardian. Gaius doesn’t feel ready. Number Six tells him to be a man; act like one.
They also find the Cylon-equivalent of a DRADIS dish. The missiles are an AA battery that will shoot down Galactica‘s rescue team. They scout the missiles and dish and Crash wants to take them down. The chief wants a private word as Gaius and the other two agree they don’t know ground combat. Tyrol tells Crash they will be wiped out. Crash says they have to attack; they owe it to the dead. He starts planning out a five-graph assault. Gaius asks the chief what Crash is doing. It’s a method taught in officer school. It’s not normally used this literally in the field.
Both Tigh and Crashdown are out of their depth. Tigh, at least, knows he is. Chief Tyrol can see what an absolute disaster Crash is making of things, but Crash outranks him and isn’t paying attention to the fleet’s senior NCO. The president isn’t in great shape, but Corporal Venner is sympathetic. Ellen Tigh is plotting.
Nothing from Caprica this episode.
