Battlestar Galactica – Faith

“Faith” is episode six of season four of the new Battlestar Galactica.

At the end of the previous episode, “The Road Less Traveled”, Helo told Starbuck he was relieving her. She lunges to jump anyway but is caught and disarmed. Helo is putting Starbuck under arrest and taking Leoben’s proposal back to the fleet to let the admiral sort it out. Anders says they will be going back as mutineers. Helo tells Gaeta to reset the FTL jump and Anders draws his gun. He shoots Gaeta in the leg, badly, when Gaeta won’t abort the jump.

Starbuck and the others quickly move to help Gaeta whose leg is in bad shape. After he’s moved to a bunk, Starbuck tells Helo he was right. She never should have ordered the Demetrius jump to the base ship; too many lives at stake. She wants Helo to take the ship back to the fleet, missing a Raptor. Starbuck is going to take Leoben back to the base ship to see if his story checks out. Anders volunteers to come with and Starbuck asks Athena to come. She wants someone who speaks the Cylons’ language; if there’s a trap, Starbuck wants to know about it. Athena agrees. Helo says the Raptor doesn’t have enough fuel to jump to the fleet; Starbuck says the base ship does. If she’s right, the payoff is Earth. Helo checks the latest they can leave and still make the rendezvous. He tells Starbuck they will stay until a few minutes before then.

Starbuck checks with Athena that she won’t need to watch her back and Leoben says the other Eights talk about her all the time. Barolay joins them; she volunteered on Galactica and she wants to be there if Starbuck finds Earth. The Raptor jumps out into a debris field of Cylon ships. They try to find the base ship and Starbuck says this is the place. She can feel it. She takes over the ship. They find the base ship and it’s the comet that Starbuck saw. The Raptor is hit by debris and Starbuck comes around on the base ship.

Athena is outside the Raptor checking it over when other Eights approach her. They say she showed them they don’t have to be salves to their programming. They want the same thing. The Sixes are making one mistake after another and have to be stopped before they get the rest of them killed. Athena won’t lead a mutiny against the Sixes. She tells them to pick a side and stick with it, otherwise they will never have anything.

Leoben tells Faust they are taking Starbuck to the Hybrid. She isn’t happy; it seems even the other Cylons think Leoben’s obsession with Starbuck is disturbing. She also thinks they have the Raptor now and don’t need the others. Starbuck tells Faust they don’t have time before the other Cylons come back. Leoben says they have to work with the Colonials and that means Starbuck sees the Hybrid.

According to Athena, they can link the Raptor to the base ship. The Hybrid was damaged in the attack and otherwise the Cylons lack jump capability. They’re arguing with the Cylons as Anders is wondering if he can link to the base ship. Which would nicely give away the fact that he’s a Cylon to everyone if he does it.

Barolay is on the Raptor when a Six confronts her. It seems Barolay killed that Six on Caprica and she hasn’t forgotten. Barolay is happy to do it again. The Six attacks and kills her. Anders is going to kill the Six as Starbuck tries to talk him down. Faust asks the other Six why. Because she couldn’t get past that death. Faust kills the Six with Anders’ gun and tells the others that the Six is now just as dead as Barolay.

Starbuck ends up talking to the Hybrid, who may make slightly more sense than usual.

Gaeta is worried that Cottle will try and take his leg; the longer they wait before heading back, the worse his leg will be.

Back at the fleet, Roslin is leaving Colonial One to stay on Galactica for the rest of her treatments. She tells Tory that Tory has really stepped up recently after struggling and to watch out for the Quorum. Whilst on Galactica, the president talks to another woman who’s dying of cancer, including about Gaius Baltar, who the other is listening to.
