“The Warmth of an Invisible Light” is episode thirteen of season four of Andromeda.
The Andromeda Ascendant is being pursued by bounty hunters – possibly due to the events of “The Torment, the Release”, this isn’t made clear – and has to come out of slipstream as they are low on fuel. Unfortunately, they come out in a mostly dead galaxy. Not an ideal refuelling spot. Or, indeed, a particularly ideal place for anything.
Harper is working on a device to hide the ship. When Dylan gets him to use it, as they are short of time, something odd happens. Dylan is still on the Andromeda, only it shows signs of being long abandoned, is on a planet, and he can see a huge memorial – to him.
Dylan has gone to a parallel universe, one where he died stopping the Nietzschean uprising. The Commonwealth is still in trouble, with a dictator – Harper – and a resistance fighter – Beka. Dictator Harper is not a terribly nice person.
The political situation does not appear to make a lot of sense. There are a lot of references to the Commonwealth, and what happened to it, but Harper doesn’t really appear to control anything other than this single planet.
