“Pilot: Part 1” is episode one of season one of Dark Angel.
This episode begins in Wyoming in 2009 with a group of children escaping through the snow with troops chasing them. Most are killed or captured; one, a young girl, definitely escapes.
It’s now 2019, and a post-apocalyptic Seattle. After a terrorist nuke was detonated in the upper atmosphere causing an electro magnetic pulse, destroying technology and computer databases, the United States is out of money (digital money doesn’t do so well when the computers storing it are fried) and a shadow of its former self.
Max, the child who definitely escaped, is now working as a bike messenger, looking to see if any of the other children escaped too. She’s not a normal person, being enhanced to some degree, as becomes apparent in the episode.
It seems that the former US has to a large extent turned into a police state. In Seattle, Eyes Only (NCIS‘s Michael Weatherley), who interrupts regular programming with reports of corruption and government criminality, describes himself as the only true source of news in the city.
The story continues in “Pilot: Part 2”.
