“Duped” is episode nine of season one of Warehouse 13.
This episode opens with Pete and Myka arguing about an artefact. Pete says that he is still taking the artefact and attempts to restrain Myka. Who fights back and wins. Then the episode goes back 14 hours.
In the previous episode, “Implosion”, Artie came across someone hunting for artefacts, just like the Warehouse does. Artie in fact knew the person – McPherson – and they used to be friends, and McPherson is a former Warehouse agent. Artie only stopped McPherson by escaping with a Japanese sword that rendered its wielder invisible by getting stabbed with it. Artie is reluctant to let Mrs Frederic handle it and has Pete, Myka and Claudia taking inventory in the Warehouse. Leena tells Artie he needs to start doing his actual job.
In the Warehouse Pete is playing ping pong against his reflection again, using the same mirror he was using in “Resonance”. According to Myka, the mirror used to belong to Lewis Carroll. As in Alice in Wonderland. Or Through the Looking Glass. Which is the more appropriate story. Myka is still upset with Artie because of his treasonous past, the one which Mrs Frederic covered up, and how he didn’t tell them.
During their discussion, the mirror gets knocked over. When they catch it, a disco ball (which is made of many small mirrors) falls off a shelf and the entire Warehouse gets lit up with dancing lights and music. Pete is cowering and Myka is still holding the mirror up when the ball shuts off.
Afterwards, Myka seems a bit happier about Artie’s past. Strangely so; it’s a bit of a turn around. Artie has finally got a case for her and Pete. There are a pair of petty grifters (played by Niall Matter, who was Zane Donovan in Eureka, and Erica Cerra, who played Jo Lupo, also in Eureka – given that Eureka is in the same universe as Warehouse 13, or will be, this doesn’t quite work – and Alie/Becca in The 100) who have suddenly got an incredible run of good luck. Far too good a run. They are now in Las Vegas, and Artie has a list of possible artefacts. Myka is acting a bit odd. Claudia suggests that she looks for McPherson, but Artie tells her not to. Quite vehemently. Out of concern for her probably.
Back at the Warehouse, Artie and Claudia are putting back the disco ball and Lewis Carroll’s mirror back in place. They are walking away when Artie glances back at the mirror. Which is now showing a reflection of Myka. Artie says that this isn’t good. Artie thinks that it might be a shadow of Myka, but it also might be alive. Artie says they don’t talk to things in mirrors – because of Bloody Mary. Claudia gets together some equipment to talk with the reflection – just in case.
It’s in Las Vegas that we finally catch up to Pete and Myka’s fight at the beginning of the episode. Myka wants the artefact for herself, which is why she fought Pete. However, the thing in the mirror is actually Myka, not simply a reflection. The thing wandering around that looks like Myka is actually Alice Liddell. Of ‘in Wonderland’ fame. Only she was not an innocent girl, but a sociopathic murderous madwoman who killed a couple of Warehouse agents. Alice was trapped in the mirror – and now she’s out. The problem is how to get Myka back, especially as Artie needs convincing that it is Myka in the mirror.
