“Reflections in the Water” is episode twenty-four of season one of UFO.
A crewman sees a UFO underwater next to his ship. The UFO launches a missile which opens fire on the ship. The captain gets off a distress call saying they are being attacked by a submarine and an airborne missile that looks like a flying fish before his ship is sunk.
Straker, under his cover job, is watching a film showing fishermen in Cornwall; he looks bored.
SHADO Control receives a message from a probe reporting a gathering of UFOs before its destroyed.
The man showing Straker the film stops it as there’s a fish that’s only seen in the Atlantic, not around Cornwall, when Straker gets a call and excuses himself.
Straker is told that the probe has been destroyed and there’s a mass buildup of UFOs only four hours away. Straker says their defence screen will knock out at least half before reaching Earth. He wants an observation platform sent to watch.
An underwater photographer is heading to photograph the fish seen in the earlier film. He reports warm water, tropical fish and a large silver object like a flying fish before being cut off. His body floats to the surface, his airpipe severed.
After the filmmaker speaks to the insurance agent about this, Straker tells Foster that both the photographer and the freighter reported seeing something similar. And the fish found off Cornwall are normally found in the Atlantic. He sends Skydiver to where the freighter sank.
SID reports the UFOs are maintaining position. The computer says they’re waiting for bad weather, reinforcements or Earth’s defences to become ineffective. Straker does not consider this helpful.
Skydiver reports temperatures higher than expected; Straker wants them to follow the warm water. He thinks they’ll end up off Cornwall. Skydiver encounters a UFO on the way, then sees it take off from a volcano. It also found a cable that the UFO was using as an energy supply. Foster thinks that there’s a power plant and it’s producing far more power than one UFO needed. Then Skydiver encounters an underwater dome.
Straker and Foster head to Skydiver and put on wetsuits, then head to the dome. Where they see Lt. Anderson from SHADO inside.
The UFOs are clearly up to something and it may be that the computer predictions weren’t as useless as Straker thought.
