“Ordeal” is episode nineteen of season one of UFO.
Colonel Foster is leaving Skydiver 1, heading home for furlough. His first destination is a party, and at 4:30 he and the host, Sylvia, are the only people left. Both are drunk. And he’s getting up at 7 AM. Sylvia says he needs an alarm clock.
MoonBase reports to SHADO Control a possible UFO sighting.
Foster is woken by an alarm clock and heads to a country house operated by SHADO. Another member of SHADO, Franklin, is there, far too cheerful for a definitely hungover Foster. Foster isa called to a room.
SID confirms a UFO sighting and MoonBase launches Interceptors, then reports a positive sighting to SHADO Control.
Foster has a medical interview, then goes to use some exercise equipment. Which he’s clearly not in the best shape for. After the workout is finished, he heads to the sauna. Which is too hot and getting hotter. The door won’t open, then it does and he collapses. And he’s dragged out by an alien. Everyone else is dead. Foster is taken to a UFO and suited up in one of their spacesuits.
MoonBase contacts SHADO Control and Lt. Ellis tells Straker the probable location of the UFO in southern England. Starker says ground radar confirms that. The Interceptors probably hit the UFO, but it kept going. When it breaks cover, he wants it destroyed.
Mobiles are moving into the area and Freeman tells Starker that the SHADO research base is in the area. Straker doesn’t think the aliens would have travelled so far to go to a glorified health centre, even one run by SHADO. He’s more concerned when he hears Foster was going there. The research centre is out of contact and Straker dispatches Freeman to check it.
Everyone else is dead and Foster has been abducted. He knows too much to be interrogated, and Straker is perfectly willing to have a UFO with him in it shot down rather than having him being interrogated. Fortunately, the UFO is definitely damaged and is struggling to escape. Then the ending gets weird.
