“The Trial of The Flash” is episode ten of season four of The Flash.
At the end of the previous episode, “Don’t Run”, DeVoe framed Barry for the murder of his former body. Barry is being processed and interviewed, saying he’s being framed, as Joe watches DeVoe’s funeral.
At S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry says they did what DeVoe wanted them to do. He doesn’t know why DeVoe did it, but it started back when he was in the Speed Force. Harry says that Dominic’s ability meant DeVoe could inhabit his body. Caitlin wonders why the other metas were created. Barry has an ankle monitor, but Cisco has hacked its GPS. Iris remembers how when Barry came out of the Speed Force, he was talking about not wanting to kill someone. Barry doesn’t remember; Harry says they should look at all of Barry’s ramblings. Barry doesn’t think the trial will last long, given the evidence, and he will willingly go to prison.
Afterwards, Joe wants Ralph’s help. Ralph as the underhanded PI.
DeVoe is with his wife. She isn’t used to his new body as yet; he reassures her.
In a bank, a man opens an account. He turns green, and the teller collapses as he turns away. Everyone collapses as he leaves, though he doesn’t notice.
In court, the prosecutor is recounting the evidence when Joe gets a warning about a meta attack downtown. He, Cisco and Caitlin leave.
At the bank, Singh says nothing was stolen and there was no data breach. Everyone just collapsed. Cisco confirms it was definitely a meta. Singh checks that Joe is okay. He is, but may have to go to the courthouse later. As does Singh; he’s been called to testify.
In court, Singh testifies, then Cecile questions him on why he hired Barry. Because unlike more experienced people, Barry wanted to help the victims, not go after the criminals. The prosecutor takes over, asking if Singh would cover for Barry and asking about the 6-month sabbatical Barry took and why he was late 72 times in two years. Singh says that Barry always did his job. The prosecutor thinks it’s almost as if Barry has a secret life. And was he after DeVoe? It doesn’t sound like Barry wants to help anyone but himself.
Joe and Ralph get photos of Marlize kissing Dominic’s body.
Out of court, Cecile tells Barry he’s in trouble. They can do a plea deal, or go for insanity. Barry isn’t going to admit he’s guilty when he isn’t. Cecile says he will have to testify then. Barry says he can’t, because he’d have to lie. Cecile tells him not to then. Admit he’s the Flash. This is the only way.
Caitlin has discovered why everyone at the bank collapsed. Radiation poisoning. This meta could poison the entire city. Harry says it’s worse. The meta, to do this, must have a similar makeup to a nuclear bomb. He could explode.
Whilst the others deal with the meta, Barry isn’t doing so well in court. Testifying that he’s the Flash might solve some problems, but it would cause a lot more.
