“Enter Zoom” is episode six of season two of The Flash.
At the end of the previous episode, “The Darkness and the Light”, it was revealed that Zoom had kidnapped Harrison Wells’ daughter, Jesse. Wells had repeatedly stated that Zoom could change how people behave because of the power he held over them, so did Wells come through the breach to genuinely try to stop Zoom, or is he working on Zoom’s behalf to get his daughter back?
This episode opens at night at the docks. Dr Light, despite having been captured and placed in the accelerator, is attacking Barry with bolts of light. She hits Barry several times and he falls to the ground. Dr Light tells Barry that Zoom always wins and removes his chest insignia. The episode then goes back 72 hours.
Barry, as the Flash, is interrogating Dr Light where she is being held in a cell. She says that Zoom told her to kill the Flash, but she didn’t want to do it. Barry asks her why she was willing to kill Linda Park then, her duplicate in this universe. Dr Light tells him is was the best bad idea she came up with. She planned to kill Earth One Linda and leave the body where Zoom could find it. Barry wants to know what Zoom’s plan for her was; she tells him that she was supposed to get something from Barry that she could only get if he was dead and throw it through the breach. Dr Light asks Barry why he wants to know this and he tells her he wants to confront Zoom. Which she says is a really bad idea.
Barry tells the others that Zoom will keep forcing meta-humans to come through the breach to attack him, and more people will get killed in the process. Dr Light was supposed to throw Barry’s new emblem through the breach so that Zoom could come and collect his body. So that’s exactly what Barry wants to do; Dr Light has agreed to cooperate in a ploy designed to draw Zoom out.
Dr Wells says that, before coming through the breach, he designed a serum that would dampen Zoom’s speed. He just needs Cisco to design a weapon for it. Caitlin thinks this is a bad idea, and could be this year’s cold gun. Caitlin wants to know what happens if another supervillain steals the weapon and they have to deal with Sergeant Slow. Cisco assures Caitlin that he will never let that happen. Because Sergeant Slow is a terrible name. Given that Barry can catch bullets, Zoom could most likely catch the serum too, so he needs to be caught by surprise. Joe, when asked, says they need a plan and that this is a plan.
Barry gets a message from Patty who says she needs Barry and Joe back at the station. Cisco and Caitlin speak to Joe first. Caitlin asks Joe if he’s forgotten everything Jay told them about Wells. However, Joe tells her that he doesn’t trust Wells; he wants to see what Wells is up to so they can get the rope to hang him with. Cisco thinks that Wells is hiding something – he is – and Joe agrees that there is something not right. Wells had revealed in the previous episode that Cisco is a meta-human, so Joe wants to know if Cisco can use his powers to vibe Wells.
Wells is having a flashback, one of several. His daughter enters his office when her father is talking to someone on the phone in what Jesse calls his ‘work voice.’ Harrison asks if she shouldn’t be in school; she reminds her father that she finished school when she was 15 and is now in college. Jesse wants to know if the accusations that the Flash – Jay – levelled at Wells during the press conference about the particle accelerator creating the meta-humans were true. Wells tells his daughter that they are trying to unlock the secrets of the universe and that if you don’t have the key you have to kick down the door.
At the precinct Patty corners Joe and tells him she’s being doing research into Dr Light’s theoretical powers, one of which is to turn invisible. Joe tells Patty that the case is closed, but won’t tell her why. Joe has already hidden the truth from one partner and now he’s doing it again. At Iris’ work, Linda speaks to her because she wants to know what’s happening with Dr Light, her identical twin who tried to kill her and did kill their boss. Linda would like to talk to the Flash.
Back at the lab, Cisco is taking some food to Dr Light in her cell (these cells seem to lack, well, everything) but it’s empty. There’s only a pile of clothes on the floor. So Cisco opens the door and an invisible Dr Light – Patty’s research was accurate – flees past him. Looks like she can turn herself invisible, but not her clothes.
Joe asks Barry if going after Zoom is premature, because they don’t know his powers. Barry says that Wells does, but Joe, or perhaps everyone, doesn’t fully trust this Wells. As Cisco points out, the serial killer Wells was actually nicer. Jay had refused to help Barry go against Zoom, because he felt it would just get Barry killed. Zoom is definitely dangerous. Linda does get to help deal with the problem, in a way that is amusingly dangerous, but Zoom is more dangerous than anyone believes.
